If money is too tight to fly out and drive back, I wouldn't purchase.

If the car is undrivable, then I would only trailer it myself - mostly to give myself the ability to inspect. As hard as it might be to believe, people trying to sell non-running cars can, and tend to, exagerate. *gasp*
