Thanks everyone for the kind comments. Sorry to be slow in responding. Had my right eye popped out today for some scheduled repair surgery. Pretty bandaged up and sore so a challenge to see and type...

Dave - As I understand the history, the color was a paint to sample request from the original owner. When it was painted a decision was made to paint one car from each model designation in the same Zyclamrot Metallic. There were two 944's painted (S2 and S2 Cab), one 911 (it still exists in France) and the original paint to order 928 (mine). I just went out in the garage to copy down the code on the paint label but just can't see it just now. In the pics of the 911 you can get a sense for how this color just pops in different light.

Jarrod - Great minds think alike. I had the same vision of the pallet of the fringe red metallic cars. A professional shot of them from light to dark would be awesome. The wheels turned out fantastic! I copied your idea but with slightly wider tires (255 front, 295 rear). The car just hunkers down and sucks on the asphalt as you press through turns. The Bilsteins with stock coils works just fantastic. At first I thought the car was set up too low in the back then realized it is the larger wheel (18 inch on the rear) with lower profile tire that caused the optical illusion. No rubbing whatsoever.

Mike - I plan to bring the car to Oakville sometime next summer. Will be a great road trip. Will definitely be sure to meet up with you and the other Ontarians when I do.

Can't wait to see it at 3rd Coast. We need to get the non-standard reds lined up for a group color palette shot:
  • James' Cassisrot
  • Tom's Raspberry
  • My Velvet
  • Your Zyclamrot

See you soon!

Yep, while awake as well. My generally compassionate wife called me "Popeye".

All will be good in a few days.

Maybe we could get some vendors to donate some cool PRIZES to be randomly (by number draw) givin away at the mid-fundrive luncheon to spur participation... I had a blast on the fundrive this year. I can't even imagine how amazing it would be with a very large pack of sharks on the open road.

I'd be willing to help organize....
Yeah, it seems a lot of people are skipping it for one reason or another. Maybe time to get some heads together and give this part of the weekend a shot in the arm?

Thanks Steve, on both compliments. I still need to find a way to make time for a stop in Salinas on one of my trips to Monterey so I can stop and say Hi.

More and more, I obscure license plates in pics of cars, this was done by semi-randomly cloning parts of the plate over other parts of the plate. I just had to leave the U-boat plate alone in this shot though(sorry Steve).

Ow, that's right. Hearing you describe what needed to be done made me cringe. Hope you mend soon.

I understand now about the color. That's pretty neat. The car is damn special just on looks, this adds a few notches to its special-fu.

Seems like it had a lot better participation when it was on Saturday when everybody was still there. I think Sunday should be for something "extra", like a carting event or something.

Agreed, fun run should go off at 3PMish on Saturday.

My pie-in-the-sky for SF11 would be to organize an autocross at El Toro Marine Base in Irvine for the Sunday of SF weekend. I have no idea how one goes about renting out the airfield but the Zone 8 PCA does their events there, I should talk to Steve Eguina and see what the logistics entail. The devil's in the details on track setup, timing equipment, liability, etc, but if you could get 30-40 people willing to pay the going rate for an Auto-X it might be a possibility.

Keep up your pie in the sky ideas, i think what you've proposed is something worth looking into. Sounds like allot of fun.

Rob, that sounds like a great idea. I'd love to be in on something like that.

BTW, here are a couple more pics, taken with the phone Sat. am & Sat. afternoon. Note the water still beading on the Rejex that I applied 2-1/2 years ago. No paint maintenance whatsoever except washing since then, though it's pretty obvious now that it needs some TLC.

I'd forgotten to offload these from my recorder. For those who have not had the aural pleasure of hearing Anderson's racer at full song, here's a sample of what it sounds like at (at least) partial song, while on the rollers at Greg's shop on Friday the 15th.

Recorded on a Zoom H4n, using internal cardioid mics, no compression.

Headphones will give the best sense of what it really sounds like!

Low revs:

Moderate revs, 2 cycles:

Higher revs, not sure what he maxed out at, probably not more than 6000-6200 if I had to guess. Maybe Greg knows from the sound.

This should/will get more folks out. The Sunday fun drive is good for locals only, the best fun drives yet have been on Saturdays. Get everyone out 2 or 3'ish and back in time for dinner at the hotel. The event needs a little something extra to keep it fresh and well attended.

Dan, did you go in for cataract surgery or something" Clear lens replacement or corrective? Good News is that it's common and rather uneventfull most of the time. K is pressing me to have it done to dump the thick glasses, but so long as I can correct to better than 20/20 with glasses, the eyeball cutters aren't that anxious to do it.

Continuing the "Popeye" theme, let your wife know that you'll keep an eye out for her. And mean it. <-- That's a one-I'd smiley, by the way.

Rob,
I walked up to the dyno from the front of Greg's shop during one of many dyno runs on Friday before SF. Holy cow, Mark's racecar shook the building off its foundation! Started in my feet and when the RPMs got high I thought I was hit with a defibrilator!

That was cool to hear in person, but your recreates it very nicely. You do have cool gadgets.

Hi dr bob, Eye surgery was to remove/repair a vitreous tear and large floaters in my right eye. Consequence of the car accident I was in at the end of April (1984 Olds Delta 88 land yacht with three people inside slammed into the back of me at 40mph). Doc discovered a significant retinal tear as well so required a bit extra work. Nothing corrective for my eyesight. That might come later but there seems to be trade offs for the more, ahem, seasoned eye (read older). I look like Locutus at the moment.

Love the "I'll keep an eye out for you" comment. Classic. To keep this post on topic, the color of my eye is very similar to Zyclamrot at the moment.
