Can a rectangular analog clock to replace digital
Hi Gents,
Ive got an 1985 928S, (Australian version, Auto 4 speed) with a not quite working digital clock...
Question: Can a rectangular analog clock to replace the digital one? and if so where can I pick one upfrom. Note: the digital clock in my car does not have any switchs on either side.
Your thoughts are appreciated.
Cheers & thanks.
Stephen

Roger is one of the specialized 928 parts vendors. You can find him under www.928sRus.com
You can also ask 928 International, if they have a used clock, or watch eBay for used ones to come-up. Over the years I found and resold two or three of them. However, the used ones usually have the orange hands faded to white.
Replacement is fairly easy; I believe there is some difference in the electrical connectors, but that should be all.

Propnut66,
The analog OE clocks are quite expensive, either used or new. There was a writeup on here a few weeks/months back regarding a different clock from a british capri that can be made to fit and look "nearly" OE. I don't have a record of it, but a search (or other, more sophisiticated Rennlist readers) may be able to supply it. Looked pretty good to me.
Cheers mate, and welcome to the wonderful world of information on the Rennlist 928 Forum,

Hi Gary,
I like the Burl wood on your car... steering wheel, shift console and door... is there any wood on the dash?
Was that original? If not, can you tell me what vendor it came from and does it age OK (parts staying in place looking new or coming off in time looking not so good?)?
Thanks..

Hi propnut - your easiest option is to replace it with a working used digital clock. Give Matt Nicholson a call in Sydney, you can find his number on the Landsharkoz.com website. For new parts, Roger @ 928srus.com is your best option both in terms of service, and price (especially with the near-parity dollar
)
Even if you decide not to get a used clock from him, he's a useful contact to have for any other used bits.
If you haven't found it, also join the landshark yahoo group - its aussie-based and will inform you of the monthly 928 get-togethers in various states etc.

Seriously, I guess I shouldn't be poking fun at anyone about how deeply they are willing to "dig" into their 928, since I think we are all reluctant to do so at some level. What you will find, however, is that the clock is not mounted in the console but rather a trim piece that is then mounted in the console. It is a relative simple, but a little challenging, task to remove the trim piece that surrounds the shifter and ash tray and has the clock in it, and then check your comparative measurements. I found that an analog clock fit right in the area that originally had the digital clock in my S4. I recall some difference in how it was screwed in, but that is because I don't have the rear AC in that car.
