Man that sucks. So sorry that happened. There are several nice s4s for sale by people on this list. You don't have to accept the insruance companies first offer. I am sure others here know more about that than I do but you can ensure the fact that you don't loose money. Also, see if you can buy it back cheap from the insurance company, there will be a lot of usable salable parts left on that car.
Best of luck,

Well, here I am again, proud new owner of a silver 1987 S4.
OK, it *was* silver. It's now kind of. . . charcoal. It was roasted last night in a fire at my local Porsche shop.
I think you can see the video here

Yes, that's my 928 up on the hoist there, and that's me being interviewed. Quite a day, after all.
See, this is why it's important not to pay too much for your 928, because you never know, you might have to get a shop's insurance to pay you off three weeks after you bought it!
So after I get my insurance check (assuming I get one, because I personally had no coverage due to my insurance company's refusal), I guess I'll be looking to buy yet another 928 S4/GT in the Fresno area. Any tips?
Hope all of your days were better,
Sean

Sorry to hear that.
I know this won't help, but the same thing happened to me with a shop in 1985 in Garden Grove, CA. (LA area.)
It was a few months before the PCA Porsche Parade was to happen a few miles down the road in Costa Mesa. It was THE Porsche shop in the area. The local PCA Chapter president had his car (a 356 Speedster) in there for the finishing touches after a 3 year restoration. He hadn't driven it in that time, either. I had my 1971 911T (owned over 10 years) in for some carburetor fine tuning.
I dropped it off in the morning and throughout the day I called to check up on it. However, I received only constant busy signals.
After work, I had my then GF drive me there to pick it up. I saw the yellow tape around the building and parking lot. I saw they had pulled some of the ½ burned cars.
The result was about 8 cars were destroyed including mine, that 356 speedster and a 550 Spyder.
Unfortunately, one of the employees was killed and another seriously burned. They guessed the cause to be some sparking occurring during a service of the fueling system of a 928.
In my case, my insurance company paid me a decent settlement and I bought my dream car of the time: a low mileage (32k) 100% original 1972 911S.
It sounds like from the video that the owner’s insurance may cover your car.
Hopefully, your situation will turn out as well and you’ll find an even sweeter 928!!
Good Luck!!

HOLY COW!!!! I feel bad for you and all the other owners. I'd be in shock. Good thing is you just bought it so you should get what you paid for it from their insurance company.
Good luck on your search for another one, when you are ready to get out there and look for another one.
Wow..... that really does stink.

Yes thanks to all for the good wishes,
I am still very worried about the insurance situation, since I was unable to get coverage on the car from my insurance company without the appraisal, which was set to take place this week. I am relying completely on the shop's insurance, so we'll see what happens there. I should be able to get actual cash value for the car, which should be similar to what I paid or more, since I got a good price for the California market. Fire investigation already determined that a 70s 911 parked under my car, beside the red 944, started the fire. Apparently an alternator short.
I have no plans to salvage the vehicle, since I do not have to means to dismantle it. I should find out this week what the deal is, and then I will continue my search for a nice S4/GT.
Sure glad I kept my 944 still, although it is hail-damaged from the summer. Two Porsches lost in three months, neither one in motion at the time. Incredible.

I will cross my fingers AND toes for you that the shop's insurance comes through and gives you at least what you paid for the car.
You may have to look further than Fresno for a replacement, though.
