Default Timing Belt Warning Light

Should an 84 Euro 16v have a timing belt warning light? I thought it was introduced with the 32v engines. However, Brad's (tilac999) 85 Euro 16v does in fact have one, and my 84 Euro "apparently' does not - unless I have a blown out dash light. Both are M28/21 engines. Thanks.

I don't know what the time line for the warning system is. Had an '85 Euro 16v in last week that had one. Had an '84 Euro that didn't. Right now I've got an '80 Euro in here that does not (expected) but who knows what will show up the following week.

I just compared the 84 EuroS ROW/English manual with the 85 ROW manual posted by Andrew Olson.

84 doesn't have it.
85 does, using a different gauge face than pictured for the 84.

Amidst the mixed messages, and heaven knows you can't rely on Porsche to be consistent, I would look at the cover to see if I should have a light or not. If there is no port or wire, I think that would be my guide. To be sure you would have to examine inside the cover to make sure there isn't evidence of a "system" in there.

It doesn't have it. .

Its possible for the car to have a retrofitting of cover, timing belt tensioner with wire and / or gauge cluster to befuddle the clarity you seek through hands-on study. Just more richness added to the puzzle.
