Belt Ten light triggered again
Car is 86, 94Kmiles
Pulled car out of garage this morning, went deep on throttle pulling out of neighborhood before it had warmed-up fully.
Triggered the light. Drove 50 miles to airport. Restarted car at airport, did some heavy accel on way home, no light.
History
In May 2008 at 73K mi , received Conti belt, tensioner rebuild (incl. bushings and pivot bolt, new tensioner pulley, new idler pulley), crank gear, oil pump gear. Everything but cam gears. Set belt tension at mid-window Kempf.
Retensioned at 1500 mi to mid-window Kempf.
Triggered warning in summer 2009 on highway / put a little less than 1/2 half turn on the bolt and drove until May 2010.
Retensioned May 2010 (before SITM trip). It was just below mid-window. Retensioned to top of window Kempf.
Tracking looks good (then and now).
Should I replace with Gates regular or retension Conti or just leave it alone?

Chris,
You at least need to check the tension.
If it needs a tweak do it and drive for another year.
I know that some beleive the Conti belts stretch so maybe that is all that is happening.

I have been running the 85 and later cars with the Kempf tool set at the high end of the window, this would equate to about 5.0 on the 9201 tool.
I would keep a close eye on the belt,
what kind of oil is in your tensioner??
Is it full??
Additional note, I set Kempf to the low side for early cars ,
the tensioners are smaller and dont move as much to decrease tension

My light came on and has stayed on. Gave it a full turn. no change.
Not that its a big deal, its in German, ha ha ha
I have put 5000k on it since I put the belt on and she comes of the road in about a week or 2 when the snow flys. The engine comes out and I will be going through everything including the tensioner, top-end refresh.

I wish I would have had the time to look after her more but work and life has been upside down this year. New woman didn't leave me much time either and she demanded maintenance
But this winter I am going to get the electrical and the leaks fixed come hell or high water
BTW Landseer, I used a Gates belt but just tensioned it by feel. I gave it some extra as it is a 7 foot belt and I new it would stretch.
I want to get the nice tensioner tool and may just go down to GM and order their J tool. Kent Moore J-29771
As a GM tech (years ago) I know that its a solid tool that has a scale, so I just need to pick the right setting.
I am also not 100% sure that it is not just a electrical problem at the tensioner.

This 86 is my wife's car.
She told me she didn't care how I fixed the light, but if the car broke, I get none til its fixed.
Hence, same-day service.

Just buy the Kempf gauge - it's half the price.
With the GM gauge you will still need to discover the correct reading for a 928 belt by measuring a 928 belt that has been tensioned correctly using either a Porsche 9201 or Kemp gauge.
If you do decide on the GM gauge get it on sale or return basis so you can send it back if it doesn't read high enough for a 928 belt - they are somewhat tighter than most.

BWmac thats not the right gauge for the belt if you dont have one then get the Kempf tool its easy to use and fits in the glovebox.
BTW I wouldnt be driving the car or running the engine till the belt light system was checked as well as the belt tension.
you could be a few teeth away from a valve job. It is also bad avice to just turn it one turn on the adjuster screw, the tension needs to be measured to make sure the belt will continue to function
