Default Traitorous Ba$tard considering an MB SL 65

As some of you may know I live in the boonies and have neither the time nor inclination to work on my own 928's. I love the car but maintenance is problematical for me.

Are ya'll aware of any websites like Rennlist for MB owners. I would like to find out if the SL 65 is reliable, what kind of insurance costs it carries and general owner satisfaction.

If you know of a good website where I can answer these questions I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Traitorous Ba$tard

Randy, just got your messages today. My apologies for not returning the calls.

www.peachparts.com has a decent forum on there. Might be a good place to go.

Randy,
I used to go to Benzworld.org first when I wanted info on my 300SEL.

I think mbworld.org gets the most traffic with benzworld.org

If you get an SL65 thinking it will be less mechanical and electrical trouble than a 928 you will be TERRIBLY DISAPPOINTED! I had a friend with an SL55 AMG and on more than one occasion he went out in the garage to find his car sitting many many inches lower than it should be in a HUGE puddle of hydraulic fluid! Each time it was THOUSANDS of dollars to repair... That said, I really do like the car but from the folks I have spoken with they are only for the well heeled for a GOOD REASON!

Randy, My Son-in-law had an E-55 AMG and had lots of electrical and electronic problems. Fortunatly for him it was a lease and also under warranty. Got rid of it as soon as the lease was up. When it worked it was a fantastic car but the key point is "WHEN IT WORKED!"

Thanks Gary. Thanks Eugene.

James, that may be an isolated incident or not. That's why I want to visit with owners. If I pursue it I will only consider used cars with extended warranty. They are too expensive to leave yourself open to surprises. Besides, one of the reasons I am considering a newer car is so that I can call for service, have it towed off and pick it up when all is well.

I guess that makes me a traitorous and lazy ba$tard.

Randy, I've had an SL55, E55 and CLK63 Black Series (recently sold to Graham Rahal) and although none were the 12 cylinder TT models I can tell you that all were remarkable automobiles and I would most definitely have another! There were problems while Chrysler owned them but by the mid 2000s they were very different automobiles. I would not own one of these w/o a warranty and more than a few aftermarket warranty companies will not warranty the 12 cylinder models..... I'm looking at another SL or a Vantage Roadster....

Wait - Chrysler owned who?

I thought Chrysler has been notoriously broke to the point where their owners kept changing...

Default mercedes AMG SL 65

Test drove one last year at CORONADO SPEED FEST,incredible car . Mercedes owned Chrysler not the other way around. None of the American car company can afford the company that invented the car.
