X post from the 82 for sale post

Dear all,

After being inspired at Frenzy this weekend I have decided to jump into the pool headfirst. Going to drive the 82 back to NOVA from Stockton. Car is being looked over at Euro Trends today (thank you to Keith) and I hope to begin my journey home really early on Friday morning.

Does any one have long road trip suggestions. I will be taking my ipod for tunes and will stock up on snacks etc.

I was hearing some talk of relays I should get my hands on.
What kind of relays?

Also what else would be a good idea to pick up in Stockton before i leave?

Any recommendations for scenic stops that are not often visited along the way. I have been to many of the big ones (Grand Canyon etc) but any suggestions welcome.

Would anyone like to perhaps meet up for a beer as I pass through your area?

Thanks for all of the paperwork advice from my earlier thread. I have a good list of what to make sure I have now.

Everything from Stockton to Denver will be scenic. Everything east of there, notsomuch.

Unfortunately I cant do that have to be back for work by the 18th. 3 days is not enough time.

Aw, come on I drove from Eastern Connecticut to Reno in 3 days in a station wagon 10 years ago, the 928 would be a better tool for that job. Bring it to SF10 and we all can give it the cross country once-over/blessing.

I enjoyed Canyonlands (sp?) National Park in western Utah, not too far off I-70.
Congrats on the purchase... glad to meet you at the Frenzy!

I would love to go but I just booked non refundable flights. I'm gonna do some route planning. The southern route out of Anaheim looks more interesting and only 100 odd miles further.

Southern route probably has the highest concentration of Shark owners along the route. You just might need a hand or somebody to share a brew with along the way.

Alternate Route - Wife and I traveled 80 all the way to RI last summer. Fun drive with lots of high speed cruising and a straight shot to keep time easily to 3days. You'd probably have to deviate before Chicago area or make a tourist stop there and then drop down.

Recommend a very good radar detector is you are a spirited driver - air spy was the most common in the open areas.

Now come on Rob that's just plain mean. We have amazing scenery here in Dubuque Iowa. Heck the Mississippi River bluffs are incredible. Bald eagles soaring all over, the leaves are turning. Now. Driving from say, Lost Wages to the Colorado border is a little on the boring side. The drive from there to Denver... yeee haawwww! What a fun drive in a 928. I thought my XR4Ti was fun through there or my 90 SHO. Nope. 928 was the best, with no snow. With snow. My Outback wagon with Blizzaks did the trick.

The stretch of Coast Highway 1, South of Monterey till San Luis Obispo is one of the best drives anywhere! Just don't overcook it into the Pacific...
I had one of the most intense, enjoyable times of my life thru there in an old black-market 635csi, met up w/a Z3, and we went for it.
Further down till Santa Barbara is also nice, but not as extreme.
Bring Windex & paper towels for the salt air on the windows.

Jeff- sorry, should have used the emoticon. I grew up getting hauled around the midwest in the back of a series of lackluster American sedans, and the first half of my trip to CA was similar, until western Nebraska, when the rock outcrops started. The rest of the trip was a lot more interesting to me, from a novelty standpoint. Especially the Eisenhower straight... Wish I could do a lot more interstate travel than I do.

It ain't no joke.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Southern route take you thru quite a long stretch of desert? How does that work if a 928 breaks down?
