drove a 997 today
I had a potential buyer of my S4 stop over this aft. and after we discussed and drove my car he offered me the keys to his '05 997.
I found the car quite light and nimble compared to the 928 with good power and handling. While the 928 is very planted the 997 is less so and I'd think would need much more driver concentration when pushed to its max potential.
2 different cars from the same manufacturer.............great experiences

I saw a 997 TT (+some other letters) make mincemeat of the Audi R8 on Speed channel. It was embarrassing. The only thing more embarrassing was the following installament in which a Ford GT destroyed (literally) Lambo. Left it with oil AND transmission fluid dumped on the runway.

The 997 is a very capable car. Driven well, they are fun and fast. Compared with the 911 cars of vintage 928 eras, light-years ahead. They are amazingly similar in size and weight to the later 928s too. Engine in rear gives a quicker steering feel, and thay have their own Weissach rear steering so they are very forgiving. Add in all the stability controls, and even an old fart like me can enjoy driving one. But I have a nice 928 now, one that holds a couple sets of clubs and weekend luggage. 997 doesn't offer that. Yet.
