Afshin - there are not many paint jobs in Hawaii that last 15 years. Being closer to the equator the sun is incredibly intense there as well as having 24/7 warm humid air with salt all year long. Makes for a very harsh environment. Additionally, a place like Honolulu is a car/people dense area where parking is at a premium so most places you can park your car is in a crowded lot with narrow spaces.
Karl's low budget approach, though very labor intensive, is fine for DD cars. I used to do it for old Mustangs I used to rebuild, drive for a year or two then sell. Few people ever complained about the quality of the paint job because I removed all the trim, panels, doors and glass before painting. Always turned out good and for not a lot of $$$. I usually had the local vocational school do the minor body work, but not the spray. There are somethings where experience is all that matters.... sex and painting a car are two of them.

Why spend all that time/labor and expense for parts for a $1000 paint job? Seems counter productive to me. A good paint job should last at least 15 years if cared for and even a DD doesn't need to see excessive abuse. My DD is 1.5 years old now and has 19K miles on it. No major chips anywhwere (clear bra) and no dings either. If I polish it the car will look like the day it left the dealer. Just saying that sometimes spending a little more to get the job done right. Unless of course you plan on selling the car soon and don't really care what the paint looks like.
