OB side mirror switch wiring?

Ok here is what I have in my notes. This diagram is with you sitting in the driver seat, the switch out, and upside down so you can see the wires.

Sorry about all the periods. I drafted with spaces and it was more clear by they seem to go away when posted.
From looking at your picture I think your joystick might be installed 90 degrees out from where mine is and your switch 180 out.
Let me know if this does not work for you. These notes are several years old and might be in error. I could re-check.

Thanks for the update. Unfortunately my wire colors don't match waht you have listed above.
I have 2 double wires, blue/blk and white/white. I have a black with a violet strip but no green. Back to the drawing board!!

here is waht is hanging loose in my door:
Car wiring harness has 7 wire connectors, two connectors with double wires.
1- double wire Blue/Black
2. double wire white/white
3. single wire black with violet strip
4. single wire brown
5. single wire brown
6. single wire black
7. single wire blue

I do have two mirrors but again have not physically checked the right side to see if it has wires? Is there any way to confirm with out taking the door panel off?

You could pull the miirror glass off and see what is underneath - but its really not a big deal to pull the door panel off and take a look...
However if at the switch location you have a black & a Blue wire to the same pin and 2 white wires to the same pin - I think its pretty conclusive both mirrors are wired.

We'd better get this sorted out soon or this procedure is going to knock some others off the - "hardest to do" mantle. Like clutch master cylinder replacement.
We'll this is how I plan to hook mine up. The toggle locations are a guess at this point, but will check for continuity and make sure it is correct when I actually do this Saturday.
(edit: I got the blue and black wires on the toggle reversed in the photo, but the rest works fine.)

Dan, I think that would be mostly similar to what I posted, if the green wires on my car are just a jumper from the toggle switch to the joy stick, which they could well be.

Mirror motors sound pretty rough and I don,t think I am getting full travel. Anyone ever take the mirrors apart to refresh the motors and linkages?

okay, with the connections as posted (but bypassing the toggle), I got left and right movement but not up and down. I did get dimming lights and a blown fuse though for up and down.
Disconnected one ground and no more blown fuse but still left and right when it was supposed to be left and right, and when it shouldn't.
Back to the drawing board tomorrow.

I got motion on both sides just oposite of the toggle position orientation. I did not blow any fuses and had both mirrors moving both up and down and left and right again opposte of the switch.
I am guessing that the blue and black toggle wires need to be reversed.
On the conical hat I assume the power (black and violet) and ground wires are also good as my system did not blow any fuses. I will try tomorrow as well.

This morning I switched the black and blue wire positions on the toggle switch and now have right and left mirror control appropriate to what I think the toggle position shoulbe be, i.e. toggle depressed on the side of the car that is adjusting. Not sure that is how porsche intended it as the toggle switch pins 1 and 3 are marked on the plastic divider between the two and using my set up the wire colors are oposite the MY80 diagram that has both switches shown
The mirror adjustor works on both sides but still opposite, move switch left and right and mirror goes up and down. Both up and down and left and right work on both sides.
The 1980 MY wiring diagram has lists pin numbers. Couple differences are the power wire is white and red and one double wire is black and black instead of black and blue as in my car. Unfortunately there are no pin numbers on the switch itself so I am guesing that the pins are in numerical order 1-6 and 1 starts at the 9 oclock postion as the jumper is #3 and looking at the switch that position jumps across to the two bottom pins.
Would love to get it right but at least it works even if the mirrors are grinding a bit which I can't see being connected to the wiring but more likely 30 yo mirrors.

Jim, pull the toggle switch out, twist it 180 degrees and put it back in?????
On rebuilding, I drilled holes in the mirror backing plate of one of mine to get to screws to pull it apart. The plastic is all bonded together, I don't think you can get it apart for maintenance even after that.
These guys are damned expensive to replace new.
On my blown fuse, odd activity. With both grounds the left and right motion work pretty good, but up and down with the right mirror connected blew the fuse. With one ground connected, slow movement, so maybe a really bad ground.
Oh well, more work to do tracing wires to the right mirror.

Most of the mirrors on my cars are noisy when they move too...seems pretty normal to me, and not very smoother either for the most part...especially in the cars that have been outside and have miles on them. '94 and '82 are better, but I would not call either one of them smooth or quiet.
