That means that it will be deemed appropriate, after introspection, to buy unknown parts from unknown characters on ebay even if the quality isn't up to what they deserve for their wisdom and good ways.
So in other words, Benton could possibly slog it out on ebay against that or stake out a niche based on reputation.
WTF??? I bought my 86.5 because, yes indeed, it was cheap, so I guess that means I am wise, too. And I have spent time and money (including money spent on used parts from the likes of 928 Int and DCS) making sure it has gotten me safely and reliably over the 30K miles I've put on it since I got it. But it's fugly, and it's dirty (I live on a farm), but I really enjoy it, in spite of that. And I really enjoy meeting other owners at SITM, Frenzy, and even on the road, whether they own a garage queen or a tired old road warrior like mine.

So, Mike, I do think I'm a smart owner, but I don't enjoy smartass comments about my penurious approach to ownership, whether I may want to save baby whales - or anything else - including saving for the "noble" expense of keeping PBR in my fridge.

Benton, good luck! I'll give you a try, when I can.

Good grief. What thin skin and lack of humor.
I never took any of this as seriously as some here beyond trying to give advice to Benton, who I would like to see succeed.

If you are that offended by anything I've said here, I'm not the problem.

Thanks Mike. OT, but I'll have the race car back in commission for next season, I really hope to see you out there and let your car show my car who's boss.

It's unfortunate, but some of these cars have to be turned into parts to help fix the better 50% of cars. Our motto is "Giving Good Parts a Second Chance." Cheesy, but it's the truth--they would otherwise be rotting on the car for the foreseeable future.

I completely agree with Landseer. I've got one here at the shop I am "saving," and the others are for parts that were damaged in a variety of ways. One was in a bad hail storm and took a tree through the roof, one was repo-ed and sat with the sunroof open for months, one was half apart and sat outside in Chicago for a few years (removed parts were stored indoors), etc., etc. I stay away from the cars that have been sitting in fields and rotting--there just isn't much left in those. Seems like Mason grabbed up a bunch of 'em, hence my apprehension in purchasing the lot of James' parts.

+ 928

Mark B. Did you pick up that Redearly 32v w/ the big brakes and other bolt on goodies? Please tell me that it's being saved. That seemed like a great car.

Shawn,

Yep, it's sitting here in the shop. I'm selling some of the aftermarket parts and non-original parts to help break even on it and I think I'm just going to hang on to it. Its maintenance record is flawless with $20k in receipts since 2000, but it needs some help cosmetically.

I was going to restore it a bit and sell it, but with how soft the market is, I'm just going to work on it when I have time and keep it for myself since I will almost break even on it once I sell the aftermarket parts. Unfortunately, it was slightly misrepresented and needs a good bit of paint work and other misc. stuff, but nothing a little time and hard work can't heal. I'm glad I got a hold of it, as I think someone else may have been pretty disappointed with its cosmetic neglect. Some idiot put buffer burn on some of the panel edges, and the homeboy I bought it from wrecked it AFTER (!) I purchased it on ebay and messed up the RF fender. Luckily, we settled for a lower price.

My plans change daily, but right now I think I am going to revive it as a LTW version (after I fix the race car) and start a blog/thread on restoring it and dropping a couple hundred pounds. The 928 is a great GT, but the chassis dynamics really shine when they drop some LBs. I think that would go well with the 86.5 suspension & brakes, Koni shocks/eibachs, 5-spd, LSD, and some engine upgrades.

Sorry, I guess your humor flew over the heads of some of us. It sounded to me more like you were the one with a stick up your butt.

OK OK, been a bad day and I had to vent somewhere. Apologies to all, esp Mike. Time for one of those Pretty Big Rewards from the fridge and a mood improvement session...

Wow! I am planning to move my inventory closer to my home and out of the current space. I wanted to sell off some of the slower selling bulk items so I dont have to move it all. Actually thus far business has been pretty good and I would be actually suprised if I had even 1 unhappy customer thus far. Please chime in anyone who has actually bought parts from me comment on your experience. I am not surprised that people have underestimated the quantity and quality of parts i possess. This operation is large. In the years that Mason put in and my short time this entity has amassed thousands of orders and almost as many customers. This inventory is not small potatoes. I dont want that progress to be lost but the harrasment is tiring me already. Like I said, let the people who have bought from me tell us their experiences.

James,
I apologize for jumping to conclusions, but hopefully you can understand how that might happen based on your current bulk auctions.
Good luck with the evolution and success of your business.

You should be putting on your favorite skirt and some bright red lipstick instead of just typing....
