What radiator for race car?
My radiator sprouted a leak that a can of Barrs leak couldn't handle and screwed up my big weekend.
What should I know about sourcing a real radiator? It's a racer with no internal oil cooling needed and I have it mounted slightly inclined and don't mind fabbing stuff, I already have a Viper cooling fan and wouldn't mind a chance to make up some nice mounts and stuff.
Should I be looking at a generic aluminum racing radiator to adapt or would using a 928 specific one from a vendor be a must? What are the actual fitment issues that come up when doing radiator searches here?
The original 31 year old one did cool just fine.

Funny you bring this up...I called Ron Davis Racing earlier today and asked about 928 radiators.....turns out they make them and already have the molds..... $771 for a no cooler and 856 for an oil cooler..didn't ask about oil and trans cooler

On a full race car I'd think about measuring the hole and going to a big junk yard. Look over the stock and find a good 3- or 4-core model that'll fit. Probably some GM piece and you'll be able to find a new one for $200.
Us 928 guys get so used to exorbitant prices. $771 is reasonable?

All aluminum and $130. Took me 15 seconds to find one. Yes, inlet and outlet on wrong sides, but you get the point.

I am in the process of having one built today. It will be finished this week. It will be brass tanks, copper/brass core, larger (5/8")tubes and they will use my aluminum oil cooling tanks. I am told it will have a better cooling capacity which I hope will absorb the auto trans heat that I believe causes stress on cooling system. I will post pictures and exactly what the specs are. This is my first attempt so I could be off! The shop tells me they build them all the time for hot rods and they are going with the same design and materials. The cost is $550.00-$600.00 depending on the tube size that fits.

Get in touch with Griffin Radiator in Piedmont SC (just off I-85 near Greenville).
They provide aluminum radiators from street to NASCAR. They are very helpful and can provide some modifications for custom fitting. They are about 1.5 hour drive from you. I am running the 55241-X model.
