Can't ever be sure, until you start running it hard. The fact that it was that many miles ago seems pretty safe...but how hard do you drive it?

Go run it around a track at redline for about 20 minutes and let us know.

Been through one dyno session and last year's 3rd Coast fun run at a "spirited" pace. No track time, though.

Still have the original parts, which looked pretty good BTW. Thought I was doing the right thing by going ahead and replacing them when I was doing the OPG and motor mounts...

Like me, you need to keep saving to be an expert.

It's $79.00, according to Jim Bailey.

Either by removing the cross member and supporting the engine from above, or, you can also remove the engine from the mounts and raise it up until the exhaust y-pipe hits on the heat shields. This will allow you just enough clearance to remove the pan while leaving all of the suspension and cross member intact. The hardest part is removing the pick-up tube. When it's free, just pull the pan out with the pick-up tube sitting in it. Not bad at all.

There was recently a discussion over on the 928 Owner's Club Web Forums about doing mains and rod bearings without pulling the engine. I wouldn't recommend anyone to change the mains that way, BUT, it can de done.

Reviving this old thread.

I removed my rod caps today on my 81's engine with 61K miles.

I started with rod #6 first.

Then moved over to the next journal- #3- better

then Cyl 1

then #2

The rest...

What would cause this wear on 2/6? Perhaps a coolant/oil mix at some point?

should I go thru the effort, pull the cradle and check the mains?
