It is too good to be true, it's especially important you get a quality one, preferably from one of our vendors. Not something you want to skimp on.

I agree. Vendors here are also owners and they won't steer your wrong. My experience so far has been with Roger at 928srus. You not only get the right part, you get great information. I'm ordering a lasso WP with plastic impeller today from Roger. $247.00 Solid pump, solid service, advise, list member and 928 owner. v
110 on e-bay. lots of unknowns.

I just pulled a rebuilt off of a '94 today, it looked ok. Replaced it with the Laso. Last week I pulled a rebuilt off off an '86.5, the shaft bearing was rough and lots of play in the housing. I'm keeping it around to show people what can happen if you go cheap.

Now, I do have a cheap Porsche rebuild on my car (was the only option I had 4 years ago) and it has been fine thus far, and I will replace it with a Laso next summer when it is due.

Recently, I helped a friend replace a WP on his 2002 Boxster. He bought the part online (cheapest he could find), but the pump seemed fine. The bearing was solid and the impeller was the updated metal one (stock was plastic...and the impeller fell apart).

Well, a few months later he called saying the engine was making a funny noise. Turns out the bearing in the WP started to fail and eventually got so bad, you wouldn't want to drive it for fear of grenading it.

So, there I was just a few months later replacing the damn WP -- AGAIN. The part was replaced for free by the vendor, but it's probably only a matter of time before that one craps out.

I will not be cheaping out on the next water pump for my P-car.

I hope that helps

Get the Laso from Roger or the other vendors whos sponsor or wait for Ed's (OBehave) modified one when it is available.

Saving $100 could easily cost you $5,000.00...

Spend the extra $100 now in the hopes that you don't have to do the job twice. There is also an upgraded pump that is supposed to address all of the problems with the stock pumps. They are still in their infancy so there isn't any long term testing yet but they look to be pretty solid.

I concur with the rest, get a decent pump and stay away from the metal impeller if possible.

$247.00? I guess Roger is lowering his prices.

Here's a little reading assignment...

Re: Deutsche Parts ... (highlight: "I replaced my water pump in two boxsters I have with one ordered from Duetsche Parts. One has failed with <2 months of driving on it -- probably less than 1000 miles. Shaft seized -- pulley ripped off by new belt. Hopefully that was all the damage that was done! ")

Deutsche Parts front end kit (highlight: "My shop deals with a company that carries Deutsche parts for VW. Every thing is crap made in china, Brazil, and Italy. Very poor quality parts. the ball joint boot wont even last 6 months. The actual company that makes them is called Ocap or as I like to call them O'Crap.")

Double-click this one and read the comments associated with the video:

The water pump is WAY too critical a part to rely on some cheap crap.

The pumps in the eBay ad are Hamburg Tecnic and a heap of CRAP to be polite.
Greg Brown disected one and found it to be poor quality.

My Laso pump with plastic impeller is $275 not $247. Charles that was wishful thinking on your part I think 8>)

Does anyone recognize that box? I guess Roger does!

I know there are crappy parts made for these cars and some are actually made in Germany.

Let's not forget that those block-eating metal impellers were from quality suppliers and cold have been bought from your favorite vendor.

Than again, I think the wisdom of changing pumps with each belt is a big mistake. If it's working, then leave it.

Roger and I go way back, about 3 weeks now, so probably a special price.

Oops sorry Roger didn't have my glasses on and I'm confused most of the time. 275.00 still worth the money IMHO.

Since you're new 'round these parts I'll do my best not to bite too hard. But,...

Do a search for "block" and "damage"

https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...t=block+damage

https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...t=block+damage

https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...t=block+damage

And here's my personal favorite ('cause I got to pull the motor on this one for Goodspeed):

Anybody that puts in a cheap water pump is taking a big, big chance. Anybody that frequents Rennlist and puts in a cheap water pump should have their keys confiscated.
