Trailer wiring ?
I would like to know if anybody has added a trailer wiring harness on their 928. My 86.5 came with a custom class 2 hitch but it is not wired for the trailer lights. I know it is not a big deal to splice into the tail light wiring for trailer lights but I have read on this fourm that some people have had trouble with their central warning system, even after just going with a differant type of tail light bulb. Would the trailer lights set the central warning system off?

Burning Brakes
I have hitch wiring on my 81 and 91 . you need a converter box , the trailer will have the turn/brake light on the same wire yellow/ left green /right . the car has seperate turn and brake wiring . to avoid warning messages you need a high end converter that has a power wire taken from the battery. That way the conveter acts as the power supply and the car only supplys the signal . Hope that helps . Terry

Thanx for the replies guys. Sometimes this car can be a PITA. Does anybody think it would damage anything to just wire it in the normal way and ignor the warning light. The only time I will use a trailer is for track days when none of my friends with trucks are going.

The converter boxes are common at better parts places. You'll need something anyway, since the turn signals are separate from the brakelights on the car, but use the same bulb filaments on trailers. So the choices include cheap converter with dash warnings and fuse/wiring capacity issues, or a better converter that has a direct feed from the battery too, and internal relay smarts to there's no additional load on the car's lamp wiring.

You will need to use a converter of some kind. The 928 has separate turn signal and marker bulbs and wires. The trailer uses the same bulb/wire for both turn signal and marker. The converter will combine the 2 signals from the 928 to the one needed by the trailer. The simpler converter (like I have) does cause a bulb error light on the dash, but otherwise works just fine. I don't think this is going to damage anything, in any event it hasn't caused any problems for me yet. As soon as the trailer is unplugged, everything goes back to normal. But, if you have to buy a converter anyway, why not buy the "right" one, with a +12V input? My converter was one that I already had and it works well enough for my purposes, but if I had to go out and buy one for the purpose I'd get one that didn't cause a bulb error.
