Default Photos from Monterey Historics and Pebble Beach

Jim M reminded me on Saturday that I was slacking on posting pictures from my trip to the 2010 Monterey Historic Races and Pebble Beach Concours. I know this is a bit off topic, but there were several other 928-ers that made the trip down to Monterey from the bay area.

The mark of the year for the Monterey Historics was Bugatti. They unveiled the latest revision of the Bugatti Veyron [as if it needed more horsepower]. Whats more interesting was the parade lap [errr race]. They had more than 20 classic Bugatti's on the track at once. Truly amazing.

The mark of choice at this year's Pebble Beach was Jaguar [anniversary year]. They had 13 of the 16 original Jaguar XKSS's. Again, truly amazing. For those not familiar with Jaguar lore, the XKSS started life as a D-type racer. The Jaguar Lyons factory had a fire that destroyed all but 16 chassis. These 16 survivors were thought to be "extra special", so Jaguar created the XKSS. [my father, a very long time Jaguar aficionado was nearly in tears].

At any rate... enjoy the photos attached. I've posted most of the entire set I took throughout the weekend here: http://picasaweb.google.com/john.leidel/Mry_2010

Glad you and your Dad enjoyed it. Make it an annual event.
The Monterey weekend is a complete overload.
Probably the only place in the world with this
much quality and quantity at once.
The yellow Testarossa bid up to over $10,000,000-
but didn't make reserve. Several cars sold in the millions at the auction.

Yep. This is our third year in attendance. We were actually at the auction when the Testarossa was on the block. Quite an amazing sight.

Yup... I believe it hit $12.2 million right before the gavel came down because it DIDN'T HIT RESERVE.

...then they drove it off the auction block and down into the parking garage below the hotel. Yes... they DROVE a $12 million car.

Thank you so much for sharing these pictures. I have saved them all to my folder for my screen saver. Sometimes, I just love to sit and watch them go by. These are just great and I long for the day that I can get out there and attend this event.

$ 10,000,000 - not enough for a TR

How about $430,000,000- worth of GTO's?

This was the gathering of probably the most valuable cars in the world- several were flown to the U.S. Click on the photos to enlarge

We agonize over 928 purchase prices under 10k- it's a different world.
