Default Fuse panel refresh PO rig job issue?

I pulled my fuse panel yesterday as part of the refresh of my 79 928. I have just got the engine started and had noticed that the I was blowing fuse 29 for the right side marker light and that the headlights would work with the ignition switch on but not when the engine was running.

When I dropped the fuse panel there was what appears a non factory relay wire installed very poorly. One brown wire runs to the right side ground above the fuse panel. One brown wire was spliced into the blk and white wire from connector M which shows to be the power for the left headlamp. One brown wire was not connected (anymore at least) and the last disappears into the wire maze around the connector M location (I am guessing M6 as that feeds the right side markers which keep blowing fuses).

Relay is PN 431 951 253 B. Any idea what the PO was trying to do here? Is this relay suppose to be on the car somewhere, it does not pull when searched in Pet 7.

My inclination is to remove it completely get back to what should be standard configuration and then solve problems as I find them. Any other ideas?

Beats me what he was trying to do. I agree to get rid of it and see what happens. May solve some problems!

The use of all brown wire is a dead give away that it is rodent engineering at it's BEST ? Porsche only uses brown as ground....

Two guesses:
1) May have been hooked up to turn on the parking lights when the headlights were turned on.
2) More likely: it had an alarm installed that was hooked up to flash the parking lights.

In both cases, ripping it out should be fine (and probably a good idea).

So I removed the wiring. This mess was connected to a short black wire with a blade connector and the other end disappears into the fuse panel. I can't move the wires around enough to see where it goes so I don't know if it was added or should terminate in another location in the panel. These wires all look the same (no ID markings I can see) I dont want to start pulling from multiple wires loose from the back.

Can the fuse panel female connector be pushed forward to see exactly which number the wire are connected to in the fuse panel?

I believe those brown wires are grounds. I just spend Months messing with mine for the very reason of the lights. My issue started out to be that I had somehow swithched the headlight and headlight power relays. I have a very good panel if you need it. Just check the part number and let me know. I was getting ready to put it on ebay sometime soon. The one i took out was in much better shape then the one i put back in but I spent the enitre weekend cleaning it. Anything I can do to help including a phone call if I can help in any way. I am no electrical expert but I have thad damn panel down to a science.

Just PM me if there is anything I can do to help,

I resolved my buzzing fuel relay issue and can now move on to any issues caused by pulling the PO's wiring. Not sure if entirely related but with the fuse panle refreshed and that wiring removed the roght side park and marker lights fuse pops a few seconds after turning on the parking lights. Left side works fine.

Guess I should start by pulling each light out and inspecting the bulb sockets and wiring to see if there is anything obvious. Any common issues I should look at as well?
