Default Took on a C32 AMG and a SRT-8

I don't know what it has been lately but been bumping into cars that have been wanting to give me a go!

The AMG, we were going to go at it off the lights but another vehicle was in or way so I backed off (he didn't, idiot)! Got up beside him at around 60 mph and we did a roll on for about 10 seconds. I took him by about 4 car lengths and he gave up. I must say those cars are quick for a boosted v6 that is for sure!!

The 300 SRT-8 got a head start on me on the highway and got about 5 car lengths ahead but I reeled him in by the time i was mid-way through 3rd on the automatic. I met up with him in my neighborhood and he lives down the street! His car is a 6.1 L Hemi modded and "apparently" putting out 475 rwhp (I would have to see it to believe it). Followed me home to talk to me because he couldn't believe I pulled on him.

Anyway, you gotta love the boost eh!!

Yeah, I've got the boost eh.

Maybe not completely dialed in yet, but I'd still don't think I'd have anything for an SRT-8, maybe a Kompressor... never driven or riden in one. I still don't think I have anything on a GTO or Z-06... those I've driven hard and keep in the back of my mind as a benchmark.

I’m guessing you neighbor was just wee bit surprised that an old buggy like yours would even hang at all. Did you fess up with him?

There I edited it for you eh, are happy???

Yes I fessed up, he didn't know what it was just that he was taking on a Porsche. He was young in his early 20's shocked me that he had a car like that they are 50 G's up here.

I like the lack of window tint on your car. Maybe it helps keep the confusion down a little? When she cools down and the driver is seen whistling away a tune, just the look of an innocent grin helps just enough.

Regards,

p.s. We know some are rarely beat, it doesn't matter which Porsche they're in, it's about the driver and of course at any speed on the open road. Even a Z06 needs a good driver to bring his up to speed to be able to make any pass.

Doesn't make me happy, but since we met... I thought I could use it for fun. Personally, I like the word eh. It sounds better than huh or 'nowaImean'.

I don't recall what they run down here, I was so put off by the sales manager not letting me test drive one even though I had enough cash for at least a 50% deposit at the time… that I quit looking at them all together. Ended up buying a 430 hp twelve cylinder VW instead.

Ya, zee Phaeton ess zee ozzer car.

The pair make quite a unique contrast at opposite ends of the spectrum. They were fairly over engineered and somewhat unloved cars in their day. Both are not something you don’t see every day.

The Phaeton just effortlessly and quietly skedaddles… hard to explain. The Porsche screams with excitement. Sadly, I'm modifying my Porsche to beat my stock 3 ton 4 door Vee Dub… LOL.

Newer technology is tough to beat. Heck, even my wife’s 6 cylinder Pontiac feels pretty snappy off the line, but falls flat where the Shark starts to shine… north of 70.

The Shark still has one of the coolest, most unmistakable looks!

nice Ted. With 7psi, you bullied the AMG, although he likely thought you'd be comparable just due to badge on his rear deck! Good to hear you kept it safe as well.

A friend has a 300 with light mods and says they are really "under 100mph" cars, as they drastically pull less in triple digits. He relies on getting the jump on others in the "Mafia Sedan" and then shutting down before they catch him. Still, to reel him in after losing the jump that far is impressive. At those hp levels, like Bernard said, a slight jump by one or the other usually decides the outcome. Nicely done.

btw - did you ever get to the dyno, just for kicks? Bet you're pretty close to 500bhp and should be looking for an M5 to compare.

Have fun!

Yes the SRT-8 was ungodly quick until the triple digits that is where the aerodynamics of the Porsche takes over. It was dusk and the exterior had no badges and a different grill. I thought it was a Bentley Continental at first until he met up with me. I don't think I am 500 hp but I do plan on making a trip to the dyno. The AMG is only 350 hp but it is light only 3200 lbs so that makes the difference. Against the AMG I had 2 people in my car full of fuel and the hatch full of stuff from a barbecue LOL!

You should be able to slightly pull on an M5.........I did a few years ago (there is even a post about here) and our cars are pretty much identical.

An M5 from a couple years ago? That's 400chp and 4000lbs! I blow over those like they didn't even know what hit them. And yeah, my wife's C32 AMG has no chance on my 928, it really is no contest. On the highway I just need to downshift to 4th, no need for 3rd. If I stay in 5th, I'm about even with her while she's screaming to redline. I bet the C32 would beat a GTS though, stock for stock. It is pretty amazing how similar the C32's engine is to a 928's; magnesium intake, has an intake flappy for dual-resonance, block made of pretty much the same al-si material (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_M112_engine). At 109hp/liter (and 9:1 comp ratio), that would put a supercharged GTS at 590chp with similar engine stress, or probably slightly more because of DOHC instead of SOHC.

I got beaten by a three series bimmer today.

As mitigating circumstances, it was in traffic and I had a notebook on my lap trying to tune out that dropping rpm stall condition. I had high revs trying to replciate the condition. He though I was revving it up to race. So he won by default as I conceded, it seemed a bit unsafe to start upshifting with my elbow, while alternating the knee which I was steering with.

The C32 was pretty quick off the line when he gave her off the lights. If you check dragtimes.com most stock ones are mid low 13's and modded ones are in the 12's.

My centrifugal blower + auto trans + 2.20 gears makes for a lackluster launch but she goes good once I am rolling.

I have never met up with an M5 not too many around here. The V10 one would probably hand me my *** but the earlier ones would be an easier kill.

I took my wife's uncle out for a ride on the weekend and he is a salesman for GM. In "his opinion" I could take a Camaro SS but any new C6 Vette would be faster. I would like to prove him wrong...

I had a Thunderbird SC w/ a 5spd. After playing w. her, heads, cam's, intake, IC and more boost SHE FLEW! A boosted 6 can really go.

Gotta love boost! It is always fun to play a little.

ptoumov, you might have been able to get away w/ the knee elbow technique in my car, but that could be real hairy w/ your POWER!

Always cool to hear about the comparison's. I was watching Battle of the supercars w/ a Caddy and AMG both rated at 518hp. The Caddy blew away the benz on the 60 to 130mph run. I mean blew it away! That is why dyno numbers don't always tell the story. The tq of that TVS blower on the Caddy really pulled hard!
