Well, looks like I got LSD...and another surprise

I have an 84 USA 5 speed that HAS the 220 option code.
Alas, when I checked, I found an 83 transmission in it with no LSD.
Lots of iterations out here in the real world.
EDIT: "had" the option sticker / I removed it during lightweighting

Paul - I think the Redline NS (non-slippery) needs a friction modifier added to keep the LSD clutch packs happy. I have been searching the archives, but have yet to come up with a definitive answer as to what to add to the NS and how much. There is much to read on gear oil, and it is taking me a bit of time to parse it all.
"Helps with lock-up on weak limited-slip differentials-compatible with Red Line Limited Slip Friction Modifier for tuning slippage
Also used with clutch-type LSDs in racing for maximum lock up"
Which still leaves me a bit unclear as to whether the recommended configuration for street use is to run with or without some modifier added.

swepco is great for the older gear boxes like found in the '84s. nothin else really made a difference, but swepco. with the newer gear boxes. redline NS is best for the LSD, or if you are not racing or DEing, you could do a 3 quart, 2 quart mix of ns and non ns.

Has anyone tried Royal Purple Max-Gear 75W-90 (has additive for the LSD)? According to the manufacturer it meets the specs set by Porsche in the owner's manual (GL4/5). It is fully synthetic.

This is what I got when I ran the VIN for an '85 with auto, US car. I got options: radio, side mouldings, hi-fi stereo, rr speakers, alarm and sunroof but what is option 319? Alas, not the code 220 LSD I was hoping for

319 shows as these two descriptions in the various lists I've got saved of option codes:
Porschemag.com - 319 Additional engine cooling for hot climate countries
928registry.org - 319 Changed Step-up of Fan - Japan, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Australia
Unusual for a US car - perhaps originally Arizona or similarly hot place?

(sorry for hijack)
I have a car with option 319.
Its a 32V 85 with spoiler delete, delivered to the northeast USA.
The pulley on the viscous fan is smaller diameter, that's the only change I see. Fan is same as other cars.
I thought it had to do with spoiler delete, but it doesn't seem to. JHowell has an 85S also with the smaller pulley.
Maybe it was just to help the new 32V cool.
we discussed it here briefly near the end:

Thanks guys. This car has spoilers and it's in New England, don't know where it was delivered to originally.
