You KNEW I wouldn't wait long to get my new-to-me interior installed. Took care of it in about 5 hours this afternoon. Here's the before and after.

I took Dr. Bob's advice and used Velcro to install the rear seats. I think it worked very well. I bought the heaviest duty Velcro I could find at Ace Hardware, about 2 inches wide. I was concerned that the adhesive on the back wouldn't be good enough, but it's really quite good. I probably used more tape than I needed, but I really didn't know where the the seats would actually be making contact with the body. Really, I think it will all be in contact.

Overall, very successful I think. I started last night by removing the rear seat tops. Like I said above, the carpet that came with the "new" seats was blue, my carpet is black. So off came the seat tops, and I peeled off the carpet. Of course to do that, I had to remove the hardware for the luggage cover and cargo net too. Once this was off I started to line up my old carpet on the new seat tops and realized that the new ones didn't have holes for the cover and net hardware.

So today I start the actual work. The first thing I did was start with gluing the carpet onto the new seat tops with spray 3M adhesive. I sprayed glue just across the top of the carpet on each one, a swath about 2 inches wide, then positioned them on the seats. I didn't want to deal with all the glue everywhere just to get initial positioning. After they were positioned, I applied glue to the rest of the carpet and laid that down on the seat back. Then I just let them sit and dry.

Out came the front seats. Easy enough, BTDT. Cleaned out the bottom of the car. Should have brought my vacuum. Nothing interesting found other than some broken window glass.

Next came out the rear seats. Just steady, constant pull to separate the seat from the bottom. It was still glued down.

Next, I prepped the new seats. Cut the Velcro to appropriate lengths, removed the backing on one side and positioned them on the seats. There are "ribs" on the back of the foam that is apparently the contact points. I just laid the Velcro onto them, and at the very top and bottom of the seats.

Installing the rear seats was simply a matter of test-positioning the pieces, peeling of the remaining Velcro backing and pressing them in.

Next I drilled pilot holes into the seat backs for the luggage cover and cargo net hardware, then screwed them into place. After that, just bolt them in. Rears complete.

Then, install the front seats.

Next were the door trim cards. There really wasn't that much of a difference between the old cards and new cards, once I got them into daylight the new ones were a bit faded as well. But the fasteners were in much better shape than the old ones and will actually stay on I have a spare for the right side that I picked up at Sharktoberfest last year, I think I'll install that one. I think it's less faded than any of them.

Last, attach the cargo net and luggage cover.

Done!

Overall I am very pleased. If you look closely at the right side seat you can see some repairs, one is really obvious in bright light. It's really not that noticeable most of the time. And yes, they're LEATHER! My original ones weren't. There's also some repairs on the left hand seat that were very well done, I don't think you could actually see it unless you looked very closely.

I'll be getting some covers for these to preserve them, keep them nice for events where I want to show off.

Actually, that's the strange part. The old seats were in bad shape - although fewer tears - from the time I bought it (2006), but up until that time it was a North Dakota/Missouri car. I have kept it out of the sun for the sake of the dash, which is still in pretty good shape.

And if it sat on a dealer lot for a while, that would be another opportunity for the fabric to suffer.

Supposedly there was a PO who did some really amateurish things, including parking it outside. That's where the fading came from. I'm the 5th owner I think, and supposedly all the previous sales were to/from people who knew each other.

I'll bet you paid a handsome amount to buy those. And another to get them shipped halfway around the world. Then have to wait a whole year to get them...
