Default fuel pressure gauge - leaks

I am attempting the install the fuel pressure gauge kit that I purchased from 928 Motorsports and it leaks rapidly from the fuel rail side.

Has anyone install this kit successfully?

The fit on the fuel rail side seems a little loose. Is that normal?

Does anyone have some pointers on a proper install?

Bob

I found that putting a copper or aluminum sealing ring between the cap nut and the rail would seal the fitting

Backyard mechanics will tell you they've used regular old gas resistant teflon tape (yellow stuff) with success. This is not recommended because it risks breaking free. Liquid or paste type thread sealants are kinder to sensitive components down stream. Mechanics repairing injectors, fuel pumps and carburetors can tell you first hand it is not uncommon to trace fault in the fuel component to clogging from a piece of teflon tape that washed off the ends of the threads, clogging in the first tiny micron orifice it encounters, if not the fuel pump then an injector or carburetor gallery. Either way it's a costly repair. Liquid or paste type sealant won't clog. For gasoline, regular old gasoline resistant Aviation Form-a-gasket Number 3 is the best option.

Good suggestions. As soon as I figure out where to get these items I will give it a go.

in the mean time replace the ball and cap nut and keep on driving
dont overtighten the cap nut you can deform the threads and ruin the fuel rail

I did a little shopping today. I now have crush rings, Aviation Form-a-gasket and I still have a leak.

Truthfully, I could not dedicate much time to this "kit" today but the trend is not good. Just adding a crush ring did no good. It does take some finesse to center the ring, perhaps I was off by a molecule.

I remain unimpressed with the pricey kit.

So then by logical progression I should remove my fuel pressure gauge on the end of my fuel rail and remove the teflon tape and put the form-a-gasket liquid on instead?

Never had tape. As I indicated, I will do form-a-gasket when time allows.

Do even try and suggest Flying Spaghetti, keep that under your own hood.

From memory, the fitting on the end of the fuel rail is a tapered thread, and is designed to have a ball bearing sit on the end of it inside the cap?

You might want to give 928srus.com a call - they sell a fuel gauge with a special fitting designed to fit the 928 fuel rail.

I think I will take mine off too then and use the liquid, no reason to chance a plugged injector or anything else.

You are only the second person in the world, Rob Edwards was the first, to even know what my little noodlely guy was. Makes my Shark unique. Alas he fell off in the car wash the other day and is nowhere to be found.

Unless you have the 928sRus adapter, yours is probably a poor design.
There should be no adding washers, sealing tape etc. If you have to do anything like that to a fuel handling part, it has no business being on any car.

Not the first issue with kit fitment.
I've become very wary of people's kits.

Did you install the "O" ring that comes with it? If so, are you sure that the "O" ring isnt damaged?
