while everyone clearly has their own opinons on the oiling system (MK hasn't commented..yet)....I also concur with Terry that the early pan was designed around the intent that the 911 would be eliminated..which means the 928 WOULD be raced..hence the racing style pan.....The later pan was changed to reduce cost-complexity...how else could you explain it...why also remove the front circlip on automatic TT's...why.....

While the performance of a modern designed windage baffle-scraper surely is better...it does come at significant cost that the early pan does not.....the parts to retro fit are around $100 from our suppliers....the IJ is 10x that amount

Bottom line is this......my 84 Estate racer came with the later S4+ style oil pan & it dropped oil pressure in turns...even on street tires pulling lower g forces than race tires...yes it was a used engine and yes it had oil leaks which increased the problem & running bogus walmart oil didn't help either..BUT the bottom line is it died in 18 hours....Kim Crumb was quoted as saying any S4 style oiling system 928 driven on track WILL fail in about 10 hours..... My 1st track 928 was close to dying in 9.5 hours...

In comparison my Estate has 33 HOURS on track.....with 17 in just two days running over 8 hours straight, including seriously overheated......oil analysis came back perfect, even with extended running at 300F oil temps.... My previous race 928 switched to the early pan + IJ scraper and also shows excellent results with perfect oil analysis.....

Okay flame suit on for MK to preach about the stock pan....but I stand by my observations driving 928's on the same tracks and blowing up plenty along the way to come to this "solution".....

Data point: I had bearing failure with the stock "cloverleaf" oil pan setup.

Additionally pissed me off that the bits got everywhere at that pick-up has no screen.

MK has been suspiciously quiet of late.
