This sucks, but as you mentioned yourself, putting an SC on a car with one suspect cylinder was the cause of this. You knew it and were OK with it.
Beyond that, I don't think anyone needs to look for a deeper cause for this. IMO it had nothing to do with oil starvation or whether you were at 6k or 6500 rpms. It was going to go and fortunately no one was hurt.

Here is a link to an in car video that I made last year at the same track. The sweeping turn that I am speaking of is at time mark -2:20, and the spin(s) occurred at time mark -2:14. Check out the tire wall about 15 yards away. Yes, very lucky.

I don't know what happened with your car but cylinder/piston breaking detonation always seems to happen 5-6k in my experience. Keeping the rpms low isn't going to help if you have high dynamic compression and common issues like mixture, ignition, oil consumption etc.
I think (but do not know) that, absent the charge heat considerations, the detonation risk is always highest at or slightly before the rpm point where the engine makes most torque. In the case of stock intake manfold, stock cams S4, that's a reasonably low rpm number.

Sorry about the bad news. Good that everyone is ok.
Looking forward to seeing good news of the rebuild...and seeing another 928 return. Keep them at the limit.

"It was the best of times,[so much powa! so much FUN] it was the worst of times [Bang, 720degree spin.. oh chit! Snasages];
No one was hurt (well, except for some new stains in the underwear..).
Glad you are ok and the car didnt do a mangling flip/into the wall dance.

Find a good used engine, intact, and install it now complete so you can continue to enjoy the car. Build a killer engine afterwards, so you can build it withot hurrying, corner-cutting, or budhget-straining. Additionally, if your killer engine motor spits a part, you'll have the spare used one ready to go back in in just a day.
Lots of dream projects get back-seated to other priorities; the longer the dream the more chance it will get out-prioritized somewhere along the way. Get an engine in it so you can drive it while you continue the dream.
