Thanks Jim. That's very helpful.

Well I spent last night stripping... and if you know me, you know I'm not talking about male stripping.

I stripped the calipers. Used Rustoleum Aircraft stripper. Got most of the old paint off. Still have a couple of pesky chips I'll scrape off tonight. Interestingly, the cross tubes didn't strip well. Since I have to take them off, I'll probably soak them in some stripper over night... that should do it. If all works out, I'll have them slathered in red paint tonoght or tomorrow and pretty much ready to go this weekend.

Got tubes, bolts, and new bleeders on order. So I might not get them on this weekend, but that's fine with me.

Last night I tried to clean them up a bit more. There were some very stubborn areas that I just couldn't get clean.

It was a good thing that I ordered new tubes. I started to round the nuts on the old ones, and ended up cutting the tubes and putting a socket on them to get them off. They was tight!

Then I masked them and got them ready for paint.

Then I let the paint fly. I used VHT "Real Red" caliper paint.

I let them dry overnight and here they are. The instructions say to cure them in a 200* oven for 1 hour. Will be baking tonight.

That's what the instructions on the paint can say to do.

So the seals on the pistons will hold up o.k. for an hour of baking? Oh and congratulations on getting your pad guides out, those little screws can be real buggers!

BTW, if you're interested I have a pair of Big Red Brembo repair kits that include new guides. Been planning to find them a new home some day, PM if you'd like to add new hardware to those beauties.

Are you going to use an oven at home? Peeeyyyuuueee! When I do mine, I think I'll use my propane grill set to low and a decent meat thermometer to monitor.

I’m guessing the heat these things see in real world condition is going to be much hotter than 200 degrees. I think the boiling point of most brake fluids is at least twice that.

I'm pretty sure the seals will hold up. If not... I'll put new ones in. But I'd rather try with the old ones in place than to put new ones in and have them not hold up.

Yeah those guide screws were a bit a of a challenge, but they all came out without any drama. Just tough to get a good angle on them.

I'll shoot you a PM on the hardware.

One of the advantages to "living" in a rental. Since I rent this ****-hole down in OH, I can use the oven without pissing off the wifey.

I'm not doing this in my garage, I try to take projects down to Ohio (where I work) so I have something to do in the evenings rather than chasing co-eds, drinking, beer, or just sitting on my *** watching TV.

Looks good! Did you get the VHT clear? I skipped the step about baking in oven to cure - figured a few stops on the track would take care of that. Ive done 3 sets and all are holding up great to street/track use.

Shameless plug - have a set of NIB Hawk Blues for big red caliper. 100 shipped.

Nothing parties like a rental!

I'm liking Sam's approach too.
