CV Axle Assy Rebuild for S4/GT/GTS
#31
FWIW, here is my experience with CV joints. Undoing the stub shaft nuts - car on wheels, fit socket and long bar on nut - RHS, bar towards the front , end on the ground, roll the car forward; LHS , bar facing to the rear, roll the car backwards; nuts will (should!) loosen off easily with no big noise or shock. The end caps came off the joints with some tapping with a drift or driver. Note there were two types of boots and plates they attach to - late ones have a deep lip , as the early ones with shallow lips tended to slip off the plate. Re the boot clips - if the original narrow clips are present, my wrench suggested drilling 1/16" holes in them, so you can use snap ring pliers to tighten the clip before bending it over and securing - worked for me, no issues in many years.
