Actually, scratch all that, and just send me the banner and a sponsorship check!
I can't advise what the sponsorship program might become in the future, but now you don't just get a check. For a small event, we may send some 928 OC logo-ed goodies, for a larger event we would provide funding for what I call an enduring memento with a 928 OC logo on it. Event organizers are allowed to sell these mementos to cover event costs, etc. Our goal is to ensure participants of events enjoy themselves, and the 928 OC logo-ed enduring memento (shirt, hat, mug, etc.) is a long term reminder of our support.

Just to clarify, the 928 OC board votes on all sponsorships before they are provided.

Dave K. has asked to resign, he says the demands are too high. Actually you are very much in the loop on this, since as a courtesy I advised you prior to Dave K's. appointment. That was just a few weeks ago.

That is a great idea. Since I am running the election, and still doing all the back office work. How about you handle that task? So, if you are president you will have had the opportunity to present your candidate of choice for board approval.

Ok, I think it is clear I am doing quite a bit, if you have any question about that, we could review the processes I am handling now. But rather than waste time on that, as you are anxious to help out. Here is your chance!!!!

I don't always find it fascinating that people complain to someone who is uninvolved, yet don't present those complaints to myself or the board. Now I am not saying we never get complaints, but to think there are many out there complaining, I have to wonder why they never come forward. I am sure I could provide dozens of examples of 928 OC members that have come to me for assistance or questions, etc. They all claimed satisfaction when we were all done.

Now, there are those that sit on the sidelines and ask why isn't someone doing this or that for me. All I can say, is any time someone comes forward with an idea, the first question I ask is how much effort they will put into making it come true. There are some that say that have no time, and I have no volunteers, so that is where it ends.

So, there isnt an automatic spot for the previous president anymore? I took a look at the bylaws the other-day, and thought that was a great idea. I think that if there is a shift in executive management, it would be very beneficial to keep some of the previous administration on board. I for one noticed all the discrete Stan Shaw logos on a lot of the webforms over the years, not only on the OC page, but OC sponsored event registration pages and the like. I think that having some fresh blood in the organization is a great thing, but would be sad to learn it was at the expense of such a valuable resource.

So, my $0.02 is to keep the "Ex-President" position in the by-laws.

Hell-let's amend the by-laws and add 1 more trustee! :-) But only if Andrew wins.

I appreciate the thought, but you want an odd number of board members for a reason.

Besides you don't have to be a board member to be involved...

In kind of an off-tangent, what happened to the old roadside assistance document that was circulated via email back in the early 2000's? I think that is something that should be kept up-to-date by the OC and easily accessible by members.

Also, I thing it would be good to start a volunteer sign-up list here on Rennlist. I am willing to volunteer to help the OC. I am located in Indianapolis - if I can be of help to the OC in any way, feel free to tap me for duty. I am sure there are plenty of others here willing to contribute too. I subscribe to the idea of "what can we do for the OC"... so, what can we do? Maybe a "bulletin board" of chores can be posted in a public space for OC members to volunteer to assist in. I have never found the 928 community to be lacking in willing volunteers, however we are admittedly a bit aimless. Given clear guidelines and specific tasks, I think that OC management/administration could delegate to members - put me to work, I want to see the OC come back with a vengeance. I am sure lots of others are ready to help too.

We need someone to fulfill the following (David Lloyd sent an email to regional contacts earlier today):

The membership chair is appointed by the 928 OC board, and handles the 928 OC database (kept in a Excel file to suit David Lloyd's skill set), sending new member welcome emails out, advising members of impending renewals, organizing "den mother" (regional contact) volunteers, identifying renewal gift options and mailing member gifts to new and renewing members.

The membership chair is definitely one of the most constant efforts required, and clearly one of the most critical.

David K. has the membership inventory of merchandise for new and renewing members. All the applications were switched to his address, so he is getting those as well, and the Paypal account was updated for him to know when someone pays.

As a brand new member (like 5 minutes ago) from outside North America, what can people like me contribute to the OC, and expect to get back?

jp,

First, WELCOME MATE. We are glad to have another member, especially from down under. There are several 928 owners and posters here on Rennlist from the land of OZ. I've know Jon and Rhonda Holdsworth (Sydney area) for several years, and had dinner with them in Auckland NZ before they moved to Australia. They, and a fellow named Steve (lost his last name) from Perth came to the last 928 Owners Club International Convention in Dallas.

Get together with some of the other 928 owners in the area (I know - it may be a BIG area, - we spent 3 weeks in Australia a few years ago), and organize an event. If you can get a dozen or so attendees, the OC will consider some support (T shirts, caps, license plate holders, etc. etc.), and more support for larger groups.

Stan or Andrew may have some other suggestions after the new President is determined. but for now, THANKS for joining, and we hope you will find it a great group, like so many of us have. In my opinion, however, it does take getting together at gatherings and drives/events /tech sessions to solidfy that feeling.

Cheers Mate,

Gary Knox

Stan,

I emailed David that I am more than happy to help... is this a long(ish) term thing? It sounds like it probably is vs. doing it for the next month or so till elections. Rather not do it if it is just going to be for a month or two, but if it is long term and no one else is DYING to take over I am more than happy to work with you guys. Lord knows I have the time right now.
