PURCHASED MY FIRST PORSCHE 928
I took what many told me was a huge gamble and purchased a 1982 Porsche 928 for $1800.00 without even looking at or knowing if it even drove. My friend is a Porsche trained technician and advised worst case scenario it would be a fun project or an extra parts car for another future 928. Well the car was delivered to me and I am pretty happy. Engine started right up. No smoke from the exhaust. Drove it around my neighborhood, brakes fine, power steering is good. Love the rumble of the V-8. Pass window does not work, a/c does not work.Headlights not working. No overheating. The story is the car sat in a garage for over 10 years in California. I ripped out the rotted carpeting. Dash is shot, but center console and all seats are pretty good. I am looking forward to the adventure I will have in restoring this car. I parket it next to my 996 Turbo and observed interestingly that the car's roofline is lower than the Turbo.

Thank you, I am excited about getting into the 928 world. My car background is Porsche 911, as I have owned 9 of them, but I always loved the 928. I was always scared off by negative people commenting on it's durability, problems, etc. I ove the tough, no-nonsense muscular look of the car.

You are at the right place. I was like you just a year ago. Read a lot and use the search function. Everyone here is very knowledgeable and you will become obsessed(but in a good way)!
Ask questions...they will be answered. Good luck and enjoy.

Where are you located? Oh and post more pics!

Thanks. Located in Miami, Florida. Will post more pics tomm night. There's just something about this car. I walk into my garage and my eyes skip over the Turbo and go straight to the shark. Neglected for 10 years and left to rot and it runs and drives no problem. I'm impressed.

Again congrats...I've learned a whole lot here. These guys are pure 928 brilliance here. I was so surprised that everyone here was so willing to help. I think that is why I'm still here. Even the guys who owned them new are not the usual bunch who blow you off when you have a basic question. These people are the kind of people you want living next door to you. Seems weird but they are truely great people who are willing to help at every turn.
This thread will blow up by this time tomorrow night...just watch the welcome wagon will blow you away.
You should come to the Third Coast event in November here in Texas...you will have a great time and learn a ton.

Greg,
Good work! You currently own one of my other fav P-cars...996TT! NICE! Someday...someday...though I will probably just skip the 996 and go for the 997TT (considering it won't be any time soon and by then the 998, or whatever they call it, will be out and 997's will be like today's 996's).
I borrowed a friends 996TT for a long weekend and put 800 miles on it. The headroom is amazing in the 911 variants, but the lack of hip and shoulder room get old pretty quickly. For me at 5' 10" I don't have head room problems in the 928 anyway, so I really prefer having some shoulder and elbow room in the 928's...also being in a wheelchair there is MUCH more room for that in a 928 than a 911 of any kind.
There were quite a few times when I was driving the 996TT and would have rather been in my more comfortable 928GTS ('92 w/ sport suspension particularly)...but the POWER and SPEED of the 996TT is undeniable. REALLY fast car!
Good luck w/ your project! A decent running and functioning 928 for $1800 is no bad thing! The headlight check list is, Fuse, Relay, Switch...in that order. Fuse/relay are easy to check and if those are good then the switch is really easy to fix. A/C will be a nightmare more than likely. Carpet kits are available for the whole car and make a HUGE difference. Dash won't be fun...

Thanks for the advice and support. I will take a photo tomm of the shark next to the Turbo in the garage so you can see how the roof appears to be lower than that of the Turbo. The 928 is much more spacious inside. I feel like I am in a capsule ( time capsule that is). The Turbo is very fast, there is no denying; but I am looking forward to experiencing the 928s crusing abilties in the future at over 100mph. I keep reading that the 928 feels very safe, solid and secure at 100mph plus speeds. Contrary to what I have read in print, I don't feel stable, safe or secure in my 996 Turbo at 130 mph plus. I have new tires and the Turbo is aligned properly. Blindingly fast, yes. Feels stable and planted ? Not to me, anyway.Maybe it has to do with the relatively small cabin. In the 928, I feel very comfortable with the space / dimensions.

Congrats on your purchase. I bought mine four months ago, an 82 auto. I love the **** out of it. It feels like it's riding on rails, and soaks up bumps nicely.
Women love it, too. I actually get laid these days.
