I was pulled over once in a hopped up 914 on the interstate. The officer asked how fast my car would go. I said, "I don't know, but my mechanic says it will do 150mph." He said he asked because he was curious as to whether he could catch a car like mine, or to just radio for a trap. He then said his cruiser would do 135mph and he thought he could catch me. I asked him if he wanted to drive my car and see if he still believed that statement. He didn't take me up on the offer, and I didn't get a ticket either.

How fast were you going?

...the guy had to say something incriminating to get nailed for this, not just enter the post. Sure the post may have contributed to the penalty.

Now if he was stupid enough to video it with clear relationship to him (smile for the camera) and excessive speed (here's my YouTube verification of how fast my car is), then Darwinian theory kicks in for being a dumb ***.

That's the problem with Canada... everyone is so nice and well-behaved there that speeding is the most serious offense in most days, the coppers act like you're robbing a bank!

Here is a more detailed description of what happened.

Discussion on the Rennlist Canada forum.

Someone reading the forum called the cops. The speeder actually mentioned what street he was on and everything. The cops canvassed the area until they got a witness and a statement, they needed more evidence then just what he had written in the forums.

Kid sounds like a spoiled brat with no sense, same goes for the parents. Who gives a 19 yr old a 2006 M5 as a gift for doing well in school?

They asked me that once when I was on the witness stand in my own case and I said, truthfully, "I don't know." Then they asked something like approximately how fast were you going, and I said "55" which was the speed limit at that time.

Not guilty was the verdict.

I'm sure there are neighbors in my hood that would say I was speeding through my neighborhood and I never go over the posted limit. I've had a couple of them come running out yelling at me to slow down just because they hear my exhaust and see that it's a cool car. I typically slam on the brakes stopping in only a few feet and yell right back that just because my car looks and sounds fast doesn't mean I am going over the speed limit. Then I ask them if they think I could have stopped so quickly if I were speeding through the neighborhood. They just smile and wave when I go by after that. This typically happens when a new neighbor moves in.

What pisses me off is there are pickup trucks that really do speed through the neighborhood with louder exhaust than mine and they don't get a second glance. Just because I'm the guy in the neighborhood with the cool Porsche it's all my fault. Oh yeah, they are usually the neighbors driving crappy cars and out in the driveway working on it with 4 or 5 kids running around screaming and yelling.

Parents with more money than brains, that's who. No shortage of them either side of the border. After reading that news article, I understand - the punk needed to be punk'd, and I'm glad the coppers went after him. I'm all for an experienced and mature driver driving at Ludicrous Speeds, but not first-fast-car 19-year-olds doing it!
