Default 928 S4 RMB

I am looking for a used unit. (black or polished, i dont care) I noticed a few weeks and months ago a few RL had posted a unit or two but they had sold. If anyone has a used one in their garage collecting dust, please PM or post your pictures.

Next week i am going to be under my car anyways fixing my trans leak, so i decided to kill two birds with one stone.

thanks jpc

It is a great upgrade in sound, but on the S4's and GTS's other than '88 (and maybe '89) the resonators are so good that you really don't get nearly enough bark. My '88 sounds AWESOME, my '92 is far to subdued. I think the '87 had the quieter resonators, it will still sound MUCH better than stock though!

yeah, i just can't get passed how quiet my car is....regarding the engine noise

On my 964, i had installed a RMB and just loved the added notes. I was going to purchase a muffler, but for now it's just easier to use a RMB.

I hope to find one used, if not i'll just purchase a new one.

thanks jpc

I can't decide what to do about my stock exhaust.

It has enough rumble that in the drive-thru at the bank they ask me to turn off my car because they can't hear me over the exhaust! But, it seems like the higher the RPM's go, the quieter the exhaust gets. Does this sound normal for a stock '86.5 exhaust?? I would love to have something louder when I get on it, but if it is louder at idle and low revs, I will probably have to find someone's couch to sleep on because the wife agrees with the bank teller that it is too loud!

Exhaust coming out the side is being picked up by the microphone; out the rear is no problem for me with an RMB. That's my guess.

Oh wait, I see you said bank drive through... not fast food. My pharmacists can't hear me in my 87 pickup and that’s with new stock exhaust that points out the other side. I think they use the same technology old as banks… pneumatic tubes and crummy mics.

Get what ever you want. Then buy your wife some ear plugs and bank online... that should solve your problems... LOL

At this time I have a stock exhaust and at idle it has a nice low rumble. It does sound louder in a confined space like my garage. On the road it is quiet. I have heard others with RMB's and at idle it is a little deeper tone but not loud. I do like the way they sound on acceleration. For that reason I am going to install one soon.

My old exhaust (installed by the PO) was crap. My dog would bark from inside the house when I pulled up in the driveway because he though I was the UPS man. But, even that exhaust was not that loud or annoying inside the car.

I would not worry about the RMB being that much louder on an otherwise stock exhaust system. When you go the bank just use the walk-up ATM.

Does not strike me that your volume is normal...My experience is that all stock 928's are very quiet at idle if they are working properly and don't have any holes or problems w/ the exhaust system...

I've checked for holes and other abnormalities and can't find any.

The system looks stock and can't imagine someone gutting the stock parts and putting them back on, but... I definitely wouldn't describe it as "very quiet" at idle, and it doesn't seem overpowering to me even when in an enclosure like the drive-thru lane. Maybe it is just because the exhaust is exiting on the driver's side where the mic is. It does still seem to me that the exhaust gets more muffled when I give it some RPM's.

It could be when you are idling you are next to an object that is reflecting the sound and when you hit the go pedal... you loose it!

I have one doing exactly that. It came with the car when I bought it three years ago, but I really, really do intend to slap it on to see how it sounds, so I'm not selling it until I hear it. I even bought a can of high-temp spray paint because it needs a little refinishing. Sorry!
