my '82 928 blk/blk 5 speed!!! new to me!!
Hi, im Tim, ive been lurking here for a while and checking out people's projects etc. I got this new to me 1982 928 5 speed black/black, from a friend of my dad's. It has 79k on the clock!!!!! im more of an old school audi guy so all sorts of electrical quirks and such wont drive me crazy. the motor was rebuilt around 10-15k miles ago, and everything appears to be in pretty good shape.
this seems to be a realyl cool car, but the plan is really to fix the few issues and sell the car to help fund my audi coupe quattro project, not really sure whats its worth and what the manual trans may add to the value, any input is appreciated thanks. car is FOR SALE at any point during my refreshing of it, dont hesitate to PM me a decent off ive your interested, im just fixing it to sell
heres my other and ongoing audi 4kq 20vT project
http://www.motorgeek.com/viewtopic.php?t=25432
the good
fresh rebuilt motor
fresh tires
its been stored inside
79k miles!!
FIVE SPEED!!! wooohooo
the bad / to be fixed
has a crack in windshield, needs replacement
dash is a bit cracked up
stuck in third gear, now out awaiting shifter parts
starter is a bit testy, works most of time it seems liek a grounding issue to me
small crack in valence
needs hood and trunk struts
and needs to have a lot of vacuum/coolant/ etc lines replaced
SO FAR / QUESTIONS
ive been replacing a ton of vacuum and such lines, and clamping them all as well, coming from the boosted audi world, i have a strong hate for all leaks vacuum and boost.
air / oil/ fuel filters are en route, what oil weight do you guys like to use in summer
what trans fluid is best? i like using motul 7590w, will this work well in this trans?
does anyone have a list of all the factory grounds, motor, fuse panel, etc
PICS, please excuse the dirt, it was a rainy tow home, its mcuh cleaner now and back in the garage for some wrenching love
ok on to the pics, im sure i'll add more and edit this page as issues arise

Early style manual sport seats...you don't see those every day on a 928 that is for sure! What is on the front of the car? Looks like A LOT of work ahead! This is another Jim Bailey special, "that car is $10k away from being a $5k car."
Good luck, be patient and I hope you have a strong bank acct because this one is likely to be a lot of work and money!

Great to have you Tim! Looks like you have a sweet shark to occupy your time and money!
What part of the country are you hailing from??
As for the oil, the answers are very wide and varied. If you use the search feature at the top of the page, you will find several threads covering numerous widely debated oil wars!! The answers are still varied, but I think the majority end up with Mobil 1.
This is the best place in the world for answers to questions and a pretty good group of people to boot! Glad you decided to join in the fun!

I think it is time for the obligatory mention of the New Visitors Thread stickied towards the top of the Forum.
Has tons of great info including the definition (or at least one definition) of an OB.
Also have to mention for a fellow 82 owner, to check to make sure you have steel ball joints since it came from the factory with aluminum which are likely to fail, also fuel lines are old. I would make these two things very high priorities.
Congrats on your car!!!!
