... then work on the car comes following.

sooo... someone in the central/upstate ny area want to give me a hand? i don't really have the time to work on it lately.
i have it to the point where the shift linkage is almost installed. my hands are too big to thread the cup into place
it's also turning over and will start... for about 2 seconds then dies. i have not checked if the dist wiring is correct, or if the spark plugs are bad, or if they're all getting spark, or if all cyls are getting fuel... simple stuff yes, but i don't have the time right now to start playing. Rather get it done quickly.
$$$ involved for those who can help

I had similar problem with an 81, the car would run for only 2 seconds then quit. I found out that the injectors were not clicking. It would run fine with just starter fluid. I cleaned the ground wires for the injectors and tighten the small wire that goes to the positive battery point, per Chris's (Landseer) advice and it started and idled great. I would recommend you to have the injectors rebuilt if you have not done so. Also, check the fuel pump, they go bad if the car sat with old fuel in the gas tank for more than a year.

you know what, i didn't tighten that small wire going to the positive battery at all now that i think about it, the terminals were so tight on there i didn't even bother screwing the fasteners on because i didn't plan on driving the car anyways. brand new battery as of yesterday.
I'll have to look up how to rebuild the injectors, didnt know you could do that! the engine was rebuilt less then 12k miles ago so i would assume that they're ok.
The fuel pump didn't sit in any gas actually, tim emptied the gas tank awhile ago and i just put some 89 octane in there today (bout 6 gallons).
The car ran apparently less then a year ago according to tim, but it was having a starter problem (i didn't have that problem at all, in fact the starter was doing awesome with the new battery).
when the car did start for a couple seconds... woooo did it sounds narly. i have never owned a V8 car before, all 4 or 5 bangers lol
what i really need is a couple of hours to kill with it to double check the spark plug wiring and all the grounding pts. Replace all the spark plugs, clean up the contacts, make sure all the injetors are squirting fuel appropriately, and then clean the crap outta it.
I have some lovely porsche twists for it that i bought for a killer price that i want to clean up and mount.
