That's the biggest difference you would notice from the driver's seat. If you cruise at 85 mph the GT will feel like you need another gear and the S4 won't.
Having owned both I can't agree that it is the only difference you will feel.

With exception to the tires & A/C my 87 S4 was running extremely well and my current GT is also running extremely well and there definitely is a difference in how these cars drive.

The S4 is far more relaxed around town and the torque at lower RPMS can be fun. It does lose some of its edge as the RPM's climb.

The GT feels edgy and ready to let loose although when you do hit the go pedal the PSD really helps control all the power.

They are both great cars and have their advantages. The GT does feel faster though, at least to me it does.

The most noticeable thing driving a GT with the gearing and torque curve is the engine braking when you lift. It was huge, almost made my 90GT undriveable when the roads were even a little slick. It did however make the car a joy to drive on the highway at high speeds, you never had to touch the brakes to slow down from triple digits very quickly when acquiring the next group of slower cars.

I need to drive home now - you shouldn't post comments like this. Think of the children, Afshin!

US GT's did not get sport seats. Here's the whole listing from 928 registry:

1989 928 S4/GT VIN Range - WP0JB092_KS860001 - 1250
* 1989 928 GT base MSRP to: $74,545 + $1,300 gas guzzler tax
* 928 S4 automatic gets revised shift program (holds a gear longer when accelerator pedal is to the floor)
* Break pad wear indicators
* Radio antenna moved to roof
* Computerized dash read out reports miles, outside air temp, gas mileage, trip odo, miles to empty......
* 928 GT introduced as a late model year addition (It appears that the 928 S4 5M was still built during 89 GT production. It is critical that claims of a 1989 928 GT be verified both visually and with option codes)
* 1989 928 GT production begins in March 1989 and ends in June 1989
* The earliest 1989 928 GT currently recorded has a VIN of 1107
* 1989 928 GT power increased to 326 bhp & 317 ft/lbs

1989 928 GT is differentiated from the 928 S4 in the following ways:

* Rolled fender lips front and rear
* Lightened twin outlet exhaust
* Shorter shift lever
* Different intake (same as GTS)
* GT camshafts
* 17 mm Rear wheel spacers
* Short ratio manual transmission
* Wheels were 8x16(front) and 9x16(rear) "club sport" with an offset of 60mm with 225/50 16(front) and 245/45 16(rear) tires

1989 928 GT is further differentiated from the S4 by the following options (option codes are located on the inside cover of and original owners manual or on a white sticker located in the rear hatch area opposite the spare tire and above the gas tank):

* 220 - 40% Limited Slip
* 393 - Forged Alloy Wheels
* 474 - Sport Suspension
* 481 - 5-speed transmission
* 639 - 1989 928 GT

1990 928 S4/GT VIN Range - WP0JB092_LS860001 - 0581

* Base MSRP up to: $74,545 + $1,300 gas guzzler tax
* 928 GT(5-speed) power remains at 326 bhp & 317 ft/lbs while 928 S4(automatic) stays at 316 bhp & 317 ft/lbs
* Dual airbags appear in the 928 for the first time
* Tire pressure monitoring system (RDK)
* 928s with 5-speed are now GTs
* Design 90 style wheel introduced on the 928 (flat disk style wheels still available)
* Electronically controlled limited-slip differential (PSD) on all models
* Twin outlet muffler on both S4 and GT
* Wheels were 7x16 front and 8x16 rear flat disc with an offset of 65mm(front) and 52.3mm(rear) with 225/50 16(front) and 245/45 16(rear) tires
* Standard on 1990 and 1991 928 GTs and optional on S4s were 7.5x16(front) and 9x16(rear) "Design 90" style wheels with an offset of 65mm(front) and 52.3mm(rear) with 225/50 16(front) and 245/45 16(rear) tires
* VIN tags on all body panels eliminated

1991 928 S4/GT VIN Range - WP0AA292_MS810001 - 0448

* Shorter more ergonomic shift lever in the 91 928 GT
* Cooling flaps in front of radiator eliminated
* Improved door seals to reduce water dripping on occupants during rainy weather
corrected that for ya.

cup holders i dont mind, i never go in a thread with that crap title.

Cup holders are for chumps who cant drink out of bottles. The only people that need cup holders are coffee fiends and those that eat too much mcdonalds and other crap where your sugar drinks come in paper cups with plastic lids

Try drinking water from a bottle. You screw it off to drink, when your done you screw it back on and you can set it on the seat. No leaks, no drips, no problems!

CUP HOLDERS! WE DONT NEED ANY STINKING CUP HOLDERS!
