Hi,
I recently purchased a Euro 928 (4.5L) of 1980. One of the last 4.5L's. It was originally Grand Prix White but I bought it , painted silver.
I want to restore the car in its original state.
My question is : where/how can I retrieve the history of this car when it was new. So the exact model with the original options, based on the chassis nr.
I also own an MG and I know for the english cars you can request a heritage form in England of your car.
Is this also possible for my Porsche ? And where can I get such a form ?
thnx
Gerrit

Gerrit,
Your car was certainly not one of the last 4.5L engine cars as they continued on through the '82 model year both in the US and Europe.
In the US for our US cars imported by PCNA (Porsche Cars North America...or whatever it was called back in the early days of the 928) you can get an Authenticity form that shows exactly how the car was delivered from PCAG and I think it also has the sticker price on the form as well. I have no idea if you can get that for Euro cars.
Good luck with your car! Should be WAY FASTER than that MG! I grew up with and '80 Triumph Spitfire and miss it dearly, but it was not much of a car when compared to the German iron I have today!

Hi Gerrit, welcome.
In the boot, under the cargo cover there should be a sticker with the option numbers.
You can get 'birth certificate' from Porsche for EUR 100 but some have reported that not always the full informations such as options are included.

My 83 has no boot sticker, nor any sign there was one. Fortunately I have a copy of the invoice, and the owners manual, which both list the option codes. I would try asking factory for a list based on the VIN.

Greetings from Holland! Welcome to the group with your 928. White is beautiful on these cars. What colour is the interior?
As far as I know, you can buy a Cardex print at your Porsche dealer. It will set you back approx EUR 100 I believe!

Vilhuer, wow this is quite some interesting information. Strangely enough, it looks like my car was a 928 S although it is a 4.5L, because I found some caracteristics of the S, such as rear quarter windows have a wide dark edge just where the S-spoiler could have been put. Also the options you mention, are indeed on most S versions. Could it be an early S but with the 4.5L engine ?

Nothing major difference compared to for example German cars. Probably English language instruments and owners manual etc which are market specific changes.
VIN says its S, not even particulary early '80 MY. It should have 300hp M28/12 engine, S model spoilers front and back, larger S model brakes (though these became standard in all ROW cars in middle of '80 MY), four spoke steering wheel which wasn't used in 4.5L base model until '82 MY (except US Competition Group option cars), higher redline tacho and all other S model features.

At what Serial Number did the brakes change to larger S version? I'm asking because I'll be looking at a 1980 Euro on Wed. evening, shopping for my first 928...
Thanks

The S4 brakes (they are black and say "PORSCHE" on them) changed mid year 1986, but prior to that all S and competition package cars had bigger brakes than the normal 928OB (Original Body) had.
