No, you have to fit a thin wire into the socket, then replace the socket so the engine can run as normal.

Well I tried starting it with the LH unplugged before I read your message, obviously it wouldnt start.
I turned the ignition off and took the key out, plugged the LH back in with a peice of wire in the 7 pin and tried to start it and now it wont start. I dissconnected the battery for a minute and it made no difference, still wont start. What the hell have I done?

If your wire grounds to the metal case of the LH you will end up with a MAF signal of 0V, which could cause your no start. I have a spare MAF you can try if you need to. I had some running issues with my 85 after a bunch of work and ended up getting a rebuilt MAF from Roger. If it turns out to be your MAF maybe we can work a trade and I'll send your's in for the core instead of mine.

If you remove the wire it should start. ..... ?

Make sure you had pin 7 and didn't short the wire to anything. You should use insulated wire, with just a short length of insulation stripped back to go into the socket.

It only touched pin 7, but it did contact the metal case of the LH. What are the consequenses of this? It wont start, maybe a relay or fuse blown? I just didn't see any harm in the maf wire grounding. Wire is removed by the way...

Thanks for the offer of the MAF Simon, I will let you know.

I guess a better question is, Could anything I described doing with the wire and LH possibly have made the car suddenly not start and what exactly?

Try it without the MAF connected again.

When adding wire to the pinouts of any computer, remove the back of the plug and attach it from there!

Does it start with MAF disconnected ?

Are you sure you connected to pin 7 LH ? Shorting that to ground shouldn't cause any lasting problem. Check fuses.....

What about trying to start the car with the LH unplugged? Could that screw anything up?

Sunday I will unplug the MAF and try to start it again.

Thanks Sean! That's a load off. I got sunday to screw with it, but Im just poking around. I need a pro to kick this thing in the *****.

You won't get it to start w/o the LH installed. I've got an extra LH for 85-86 for testing. As much as you've done to the car, use that 40 page diagnostic I sent you. Ignore the oscilloscope stuff for now. I think the only thing that you would need it for is testing the crank position sensor. The rest of it can be done with an Ohm meter and some time. I should have an extra MAF at that time also.

Take notes, I might help save some time for me.

Sean: The LH is plugged in now and it still wont start, but it stopped starting from the point I tried to start it with the LH unplugged.

I found the Temp II unplugged, dont remember if I did that before I left or not on friday. I plugged the TEMP II in and unplugged the MAF and the thing burbled to life for a second and died. Now it won't start again. Maf plugged or unplugged. None of the fuses seem to have anything to do with the engine besides cooling fan type stuff.

Flooded now?

Charge the battery, then try some extended starts using throttle on the floor?

Also, ensure coil wire grounds are good and in-place, plus, grounds at back of V.

Looking at the test plan for no start, The Ground and plug connections are good. I have not checked every plug, but considering the condition of the ones I have pulled all the wiring is perfect. Ive tested the Temp II several times and it is ok, I have values if you want them. As far as fuel pressure and injectors, I dont have the equipment to test it exactly, but they do atleast function as it smells like gasoline when I crank the engine especially near the tailpipe.

What is the ign. high voltage sheild?

I will check the control units power supply. Battery needs charging and I have no charger so Im about SOL on cranking it.
