Well I broke down and bought some of those MODA 1 wheels that TireRack had on sale. I purchased the 8.5X19 et54 and 10X19 et 58. They look very nice and the price was right at $59.00 each.

Anyway now I have to spend money on some moderately priced tires. I have found some Continental Extreme Contact DW tires that fit the bill. Z rated, good reviews, priced about $1,000. a set.

Here is what I`m thinking:
Fronts 235/35/19 25.5 height
Backs 285/30/19 25.7 height

Both fall into middle of rim width range. Only concern is this...

Will they fit an 83S ? without having to modify the Body ?

This is kinda like closing the Barn door after the horses are gone !!!!

I think there are folks running 295's on the back of S cars w/o issues so I think you will be ok...

I got a set of those for my race car in 18" diameter. I wanted a set for EURO85, but I didn't want to get the 19's... they were out of the 18 fronts.

Give our main man at TireRack a call for those tires...heck you probably could have had them set up for you and shipped ready to install! Looking forward to pics of your car w/ the new wheels on!

Well - I have One (1) front...lol and 2 rears...fell prey to thinking I could buy a one off from the many vendors advertising they sell MODA. Only to learn all thru Tire Rack..... Proud owner of 3 18" chromed wheels

Hey Jim, I would have also liked the 18`s but like you, no fronts. I really do like the look of the wheel on the 928. I`m going to try and get it hooked up this weekend.

BTW. I hear you wont make it to 3rd coast this year. I`m going to run out there with Bill Ball and Cowboy Dan says he wants to go. He may be in AZ. buy then. Bill will just pick up in Phoenix.
Anyway i will post some pics when mounted up.

Yea, it is homecoming at my alma mater AND the 100th anniversary of my fraternity on campus...I am quite busy that weekend unfortunately. I will REALLY miss you all! I LOVE that event! I will be sending my calendars along with another local member so you will at least be able to go home with a calendar full of hot cars and hot girls!

I guess this might be a dumb question, but is it Ok to have two different wheel offsets. How much of the studs is effected by the different offsets. Actually, i am not sure what is the late offset for the 928s4.

I am just curious because I original had an early 951 that i went great lengths to change the offset from 28 to the later offset.

Anywho...sorry to take over your thread, but just concerned about the actual safety of the bolt to the stud.

PS If you can't find your tires through the 928 group, you might try ebay. I have found several good tires with plenty of life for a very discounted price.

I'd recommend a 275 max rear width to reduce understeer.

I've got 275 rear and 245 front on my GTS - good balance.

Stud/bolt depth is not effected at all since the wheel center is same as stockers. If I need to place a spacer on back,I will purchase one with the proper studs.

Understeer refers to the condition of too much rear traction and not enough front, therefore the car tends to push into a turn.

The 911 has the exact opposite problem - oversteer. Hence that model has very wide tires on the rear and relatively narrow tires on front.

Having a much larger section width tire on back could promote "push" or understeer at the limits of adhesion. Skinny ones usually break loose first, hence front tires in this case. I personally prefer the throttle controll method of maintaining as much balance as possible.

Randy - so is that why you went wider on teh front (245)? Is their a calculation or something to help determine when oversteer could become an issue?

Which is the same condition as 235`s on front 285`s on back.?? 911`s issue is engine weight, and position relative to transaxle. not tire size.

He means that the tires were sized so that the oversteer was somewhat compensated for, not that the tire sizing caused the oversteer

There are many way to correct oversteer and understeer.

Personally, I think adding a supercharger is one of the best ways to correct understeer!
