Default spare will not deflate

Hello to all on rennlist been hiding in the back ground for a couple of weeks reading post and getting my baby up and running.
I have the spare that came with the car and it was sat in the back hatch so i go to put it in the well and find it is not fully deflated,i have tried putting a ratchet strap around it..also a shop vac with a home made connector to try to suck the air out.
The problem seems to be that it has been sat partly inflated and now only one side will return to its original shape.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try one or more ratcheting cargo straps to compress it.

Edit: Oops... I didn't slow down enough to read that you already tried that. Maybe more than one strap and leaving it compressed for awhile?

Find someone with a vacuum pump, or MacGyver a connection to a vacuum line on the car - I've never seen one that wouldn't fold with enough vacuum.

Thank you for the help still trying to find a vacuum pump.
Do you know if it is possible to get a new tire fitted and if so where...

A lot of folks carry an emergency roadside assistance card in lieu of a spare tire. It saves weight and improves gas mileage.

As I recall, I've used my folding spare twice in 15 years.

Good luck with that vacuuming in the sun. Hope that works for you.

A lot of people also don't know that the spare tire is actually considered a structural part of the car. So just hope you don't get rear-ended if you don't have your spare in the back...

Car is totalled if a rear end impact compresses the spare.

You are acting like you've seen me drive before. The rumors about me being a slow driver are untrue. I drive so fast nobody can read my bumper sticker. I gots low risk.

That is interesting about the secondary purpose of the spare. I hadn't considered that before.

Dean,
Summary of above in the following order:
!. Sun to heat up the tyre,
2. Vacuum pump to obtain maximum vacuum, and at the same time
3. Two or more rachet straps.

I'll 2nd the vacuum pump.I made an adapter for my a/c vacuum pump.I'd reinflate and sit it out in the hot sun and then deflate and vacuum down.Even then it may still be a tight fit and have to be stuffed into the storage area.

Maybe so, but the people inside will be less likely to be totaled.

But if you get rear ended, and the spare is there, and it gets crushed, how ya going to get it out?

I know this won't help much, but I had a fellow racer borrow my spare once when he got a flat at the track. He didn't have his because he was trying to save weight. I don't know what he did, but he returned it a couple weeks later fully deflated. Maybe it will give you hope that it can be deflated back to the original size?

Yep, mine always has to be jammed in there to make it fit.

Your's looks pretty deflated to me - looks just like mine.

Have you tried cramming it in there?

And no help on the new tire sourcing, but seems like there should be plenty of spare spares lying around people garages if that would do the trick.
