Would powder coating the block and cylinder heads cause heat issues? For any of you who have, what are your thoughts, was it worth the expense to PC the block and heads? any issues?

thanks alot guys!

You are insulating the engine and I don't think there is a manufacturer that does this

Maybe not for cars, but a large percentage of motorcycle engines are painted or powdercoated. Especially for a water cooled engine, I don't think you're relying on radiant cooling at all, even should the PC affect the block's ability to radiate.

Unless you're really looking for it, though, you'll never notice PC on the block and heads anyway. Just do a nice job on the covers, manifold, etc.

I think the expansion from heat/cooling would be the biggest issue.

Shouldn't be a problem. Again, there are a lot of motorcycles with powdercoated blocks and heads, even on air cooled engines where the heads get a lot hotter than they do for a watercooled engine.

There are even formulations of powdercoat that are used on headers.

The finned cylinder and head assemblies on just about all air cooled airplane engines are heavily painted. The crankcases on many are also painted.

the heat dissipation from the block and heads seems that it would be nominal i would think. They are not finned or anything.

Duc I would figure out other ways to spend your money PC the block and headss would IMHO be a waste of money.
First you cant see most of the engine,
second once the engine is clean it is a work of art
third if the girdle surface is contaminated you wont get a sealed block as the block and girdle would have to be assembled when PCd as well as the oil pump . In general buy new seats or a dash or a new AC compressor

Bad idea, these engines are hard enough to keep dry, you powder coat every thing and you will be chasing leaks for a long time.

If you powder coat the engine/ heads , how HOT do they get in the oven ?? might cause warping ? or other alusil issues . I agree with the other posts don't do it . Just polish them up . Terry

I can assure you it's not nominal.
