Default Cooling fan stays on

I was changing my sidemarker light and noticed that the cooling fan was running. When I jacked the car up to get the right front wheel off, the fan went off. When I lowered it, it came back on. No overheating issues.
I then noticed that the fans will kick off and on when the car is shut off. Stay on for a little bit, turn off for a few seconds then back on. What is causing this?

try removing one of the wires from the sensor at the top back of the intake manifold if the wire removed makes the fans go off then the sensor has failed.
you can check sensor for continuity it should have none if the engine isnt hot..
here is a link to a similar issue.

The reason it went off when you jacked it up was probably the hood switch - you were twisting the frame a bit (esp if you have no engine brace) - probably caused the switch to think the hood was open.

When the hood is open and the engine off the fans are disabled from running for your safety.

Otherwise they will run for a while when the engine is off if the engine (intake) is hot enough per Stans note above. (seems you have a fault...)

Your fans will run if the a/c is in the switched on position [even if the engine is not running]. If this is the case switch the a/c to the off position and see if the fan stops running as you have seen it. If so, this explains what you have seen, if not then you may have some other issue that needs dealing with.

Err - No (or at least not without the ignition on)

When I talked about engine off above - I actually meant ignition off

I believe this to be an ignition off fans running scenario....

The hood switch is how I discovered my similar issue after my boys gave the car a good washing. When I closed the hood the fans came on and the engine was cold. I followed the advice from my thread and now is back to normal.

My engine is off. I tested it again. (Its a pain when the car is garaged somewhere else.) I turned the ignition to on(not to turn it over aka start it), and my newly installed radio comes on and I hear the fan running. I turn the ignition off, and the fans will come off and on intermittently(?). I open the door it stops, start to close it, it turns on. This occurred before installing the radio btw.

Does anyone have a photo with a pointer to show me where this thermostat would be. Thanks guys.

Not sure a photo is needed. It's the only electrical thing attached to the top of the intake manifold (2-pin switch that screws into the manifold body).

But, just in case, here's a picture:

I initially cleared my issue by disconnecting the battery at the ground strap for a few moments. It stopped the fans and after some cleaning and drying has worked perfectly.
Not sure why but it worked.

With mine, I replaced the switch. I also cut the old one open, and could see a droplet of water across the contacts.
