Default Need help w/vacuum advance unit

The vacuum advance unit on my 83 will not hold vacuum. The diaphram inside is broken and is a vacuum leak. God knows what else will be better when this is replaced. The problem is, Roger says new ones are $160. I see them with prices ranging form $14.95 for VW to $160 for Porsche. I know there has to be a crossover to Volvo or Mercedes. I suspect that the Porsche BOX is what is adding so much to the price. Does anyone have across ref list or know of a website. The Bosch site http://www.automotive-tradition.de/en/start/index.htm is not much help with this part.

If Bosch doesn't have them anymore, Porsche may be the only source. Bosch built them for Porsche and would have kept some for their own sales. When they run out...Porsche will be the only source. Unless you can find the exact same can from another vehicle, one that "looks the same" probably will not work. Cans with different part numbers will change the timing differently than the original part number. There is a stamped number on the shaft that operates the distributor that must be mactched.

Since the '83 engine depends on that vacuum can to pull in a whole bunch of timing, the car will run like crap with it not working.

928 International for a used one?

Yes. I've noticed the arms have diff #'s stamped on them and if they are not the exact lenghth, the 'at rest' timing will be off affecting everythingelse. I just found one online new w/same part #. Just ordered it. I would still like to find a cross ref list. Thanks.
