Race Car
Actually this thread reminded me when I caught the 928 bug...
I was on my way to get the oil changed in my Subaru Forester and I passed by a European Repair Shop; saw a white 928 in the lot; drove in and chatted with the owner. Actually knows his stuff on 928s. The car was in for service.
It was the same white 928 that I drove by on the way to Lowe's back in November that triggered my desire to get a 928 (had the same urge back in 1996 but never carried it through). Soon after I saw the Wheeler Dealer's episode. Then saw a classic car tv show also on Discovery Home Theater. Then my Saturn VUE XR died and went back on Lemon Law.
So here I stand today. :-)

I would be surprised if there are still 10 928's on the road here in Saskatchewan. There is a real nice '86 928s in white in Regina though....test drove it before I bought my S4.
I have yet to ever see a GTS in Saskatchewan.

Burning Brakes
Every once in awhile I see one. Like one every six months. Never going in the same direction or near me though. Usually just see them across the highway going the opposite way.

Well, this year has been better than previous years....Up here in Northern Vermont there are not a lot...but today I was in Stowe at my place of work and a Silver 928 was running up the Mtn road....I waved as I was walking from my 928. Later he stopped by the shop....WOW! It was a pristine original 79 silver on blk manual shift...great story behind it too as his uncle had purchased this from the dealer in 79 and only added on the S front spoiler a couple years later...only 30,000 original miles...I haven't seen one in this showroom condition since they were new. He had everything.....tool kit original with the little orange box for a replacement bulbs to the electric pump still in its original box, even the plastic porsche poncho with gloves it you need to work on any dirty or greasy parts all packaged with the pump... I felt like I had traveled back in time to see this.....I couldn't find any dirt in thew crevases...leather dash perfect. As it was a florida car up until a few years ago....never sat out in the sun, was always garaged...seat covers on the leather seats, but if they are lifted up the leather is soft and pliable like new!!! He had it shipped up to Ct to be freshened up and hes been using it to drive up her eto Stowe from lower New Hampshire. A great guy...says he even pops in here to read updates and answers to questions. It figures I forgot my camera on my kitchen counter this morning...and I always have it on me.....I asked if he had thought of selling it....he said the mechanics that freshened it up....were salivationg if he was thinking of that too.....Lastly...the phone dial wheels were perfect...no curb rash or discoloration at all....just new F1 rubber on them....All in all I see one every so often up here as there are a couple members here thats live near by and run up through the Mtn Notch with theirs.....and just last week my Audi mechanic just bought an 82......so maybe the ranks are growing??? Hope you all had a great 4th!

There's been a black/black S4 with Cup1 wheels on it tooling around my part of Irvine lately. Every time I see it I have to check the garage to make sure the GT hasn't been stolen.

Spotting UFO's is simpler. There's four around here, a small town of around 7,000, but only two are running at the moment (both ours). We took the GT on a nice road trip in June, to SITM and back (around 6000 miles) and only saw ONE Porsche of any sort-- a yellow new-ish 911 around Sioux Falls heading the other way on the interstate-- except for the hills of NC of course. Furrin cars still aren't big in middle America.

I actually saw a black one today on 101 driving south in Marin. I think it might have been a same one I saw in Novato & Corte Madera (driven by an older lady) a few months ago. I also saw a silver one in Petaluma last week on Lakeville Highway again heading south. Other than those two I will go months without spotting any on the Bay Area roads.

We have had plenty of new people join the 928 group here in Austin, but outside of our GTG's I only see one other 928 on the road. You can find Tom in his raspberry on Lamar quite often.

Similar story for me too... was driving through NJ on the way back from a weekend in DC when I saw a silver/gray one with two women in it (that was pretty cool). I had always loved the 928, but seeing that one - the first 928 I'd seen in at least 5 years - got the juices flowing again.
I got online when I got home from that trip and saw that 928's were readily available for less than I'd spent on any of my last three cars, so I started learning and looking in earnest. Two years after that, I pulled the trigger on my '89 GT.
Still, I almost never see them randomly. Even at PCA meetings, I'm usually the only one representin'.
