Hey Gaz. Nice '89 and great job on conserving the miles... I thought we were supposed to be driving these things like we stole them? :-)

69K miles on my '91 and paint is not perfect... Not quite a daily driver, but definitely approachable.

Yeah... I hear I'm perhaps not the most original white 928 owner... Apologies for the "steal"... At least we're multiple states apart...

So I was wondering why my car was running so warm... I forgot about the passive louver. I tucked it down and now everything seems to run about 10* cooler.
Andrew,

The benefit is reduced drag, which you likely wouldn't notice unless you regularly drove 150 mph plus. Truth be told, I don't think I have had any 928 up to that speed, but I still like knowing that its on the car. This is something car manufacturers are now putting back into their cars for ever more top speed. Porsche was ahead of the game with this 20 plus years ago.

Ah, there's nothing new under the sun anyway! I was thinking about getting DER HAI when someone in sunny FLA posted that they had that plate, so I went with GRT WHT. I'm a huge fan of Jaws so I had to do something shark-related.

Thanks for the compliment! I do drive my GT like I stole it - ask anyone who has driven with or near me!

I bought it 3 years ago with about 30k miles on the clock, so I drive it more now than it was being driven previously (I am pretty sure it sat mostly undriven for several years before the PO acquired it). But I'm limited by the weather and the repair status of the car... it's been absolutely treacherous in its proclivity to break down. I have fixed most of the usual breakdown causes at this point (my fuel pump is probably seizing up as I type this) so at some point it should become reliable.

All the GT model years were allegedly identical in performance.

That said, if they have the same engines, transmissions, and final drives, but one model-year is lighter than the others, well then... (but I can't find reliable curb weights).

I wonder if the mechanical LSD on the '89 GT might help it hook up better on launch than a PSD-equipped GT. With no braking intervening, I would think you'd get a better launch with the mechanical LSD.

Still, these are very small differences. I would think that all GT's will perform about the same.

DAMN!! I just realized that I missed a great opportunity to weigh the CS wheels against D90 wheels to see which is lighter when I had a set of each!

CS rims were the lightest/strongest rims that Porsche produced for the 928. I'll see if I can get my CS rims weighed at some point just as a solid data point.. (CS rims are forged and the D90's etc. are cast)

8" CS rim 9.5 kg
9" CS rim 9.4 kg
Something isn't right about that?

7.5" D90 rim 8.7 kg
9" D90 rim 10kg

Could the 8" CS rim be 8.5 instead of 9.5kg?

I just went through the numbers my self and I am unsure whether they are acurate. The 8" CS rims should be lighter than the 9". They both have the same ET and 8" contains less material than the 9" (I guess). A lower ET normally means a more massive hub, thus more weight.

But see the phone dials. They are available in 9" ET70. Perfect for all 4 corners. And low weight.

It's a fact, '91 GT's are most desireable. There that settles it. Whew, I need a drink.

I thought that the shifter got a bit shorter for '90 or '91, but since that wasn't mentioned here, I guess that's not the case.
..so based on that logic, it's the '91. Particularly Black '91s that were built on 9/28.

I have experienced exactly the opposite. Had a 1990 GT with a stick 1" longer than the current 1989 GT that I have.

When it comes to your antenna - bigger is better.

But when it comes to your shifter - stubbier is better.
