Default used 928 with warranty

Would any of you buy a used 928 if the dealer offered a warranty? I was just thinking of the 928 i sold a to a car dealer and how much bad stuff was wrong with it.

I bought my GTS from a dealer. Got lots of reassurance of what great shape it was in, but no warranty.

The dealer was Michael Willhoit in Springfield MO. I bought the car without actually seeing it in person or driving it. Even though I was a little anxious waiting for the car to be delivered, I was NOT disappointed and the car was every bit the car he promised and worth every penny.

Funny this came up at dinner with some friends tonight. A local mechanic is also a big used car sales lot-great imports, muscle cars and exotics (from old and newer Camaros to Ferrari 599s). He sells an extended warranty for about $2500. The reality is he finds estate cars and auction cars and refurbishes them at his cost. Then he sells them at a nice markup and sells a 3rd party aftermarket warranty. He knows what they'll pay for a claim and he knows how many claims he'll get. Further he ends up servicing those cars (if it's a Mercedes-which he sells a good number of-he'll make a nice profit on those oil changes too).

Yet I would buy from him and buy the warranty because I trust his work and the quality of the cars he sells.

With a 928 however, wear and tear items like Timing Belts, Water Pumps and Motor Mounts would not be covered by any warranty. Plus many of the aftermarket warranties aren't worth the paper they are printed on. If the dealer is warranting it, what recourse do you have? Except for a few states which require a bond to offer a warranty, there is nothing to say it will ever be honored.

I have seen many used car dealerships offer a warranty thats valid only at their location. Imagine the look on their face when they have the pay for TBF.

Imagine how little they might do to make the repair.

Warranty on an OLDER used car frequently is worthless, and generally never should be considered as a replacement for a real inspection. Most warranties are just sales tools designed to do exactly that, skip a proper inspection, and/or ignore even obvious issues.

As said, the basic power train is very sound, everything that breaks tends to be the other non covered stuff.
