Default Porsche wiring diagram wire sizes to U.S. gauge.

Does anyone know how to convert for instance 1,5 mm squared wire gauge to U.S. gauge?

Google is your friend
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America...AWG_wire_sizes

Roughly speaking
For 0.5mm2 use AWG 20 =0.52mm2
For 1.0mm2 use AWG 17 =1.04mm2
For 1.5mm2 use AWG 15 =1.63mm2
For 2.0mm2 use AWG 14 =2.08mm2
For 4.0mm2 use AWG 11 =4.17mm2

BTW round down for AWG since large numbers are smaller core areas. Typically only even guages are widely available.

Thanks, what retailers might sell standard wire gauges?

I had a suspicion that only even gauges were available. This probably means you'll end up suing (in some cases) a significantly large wire than original but that is in general beneficial.

I re-wired a sailing yacht once and ended up using 2.5mm2 wire for everything as 2.5 was what I needed for the 20 odd meter run to the top of the rig and it was just cheaper to buy one bigger drum of red 2.5 and black 2.5 than to buy smaller amounts of smaller sizes.

Its possible to order the "metric" wires online, though I haven't done so.
