Mint 85 going at Barrett Jackson
One owner 25000 miles auto. I know that Barrett Jackson isn't kind to Porsche's but will be interesting to see what it goes for.

Should be interesting, but I've only seen Barrett Jackson on the Speed channel. I thought they really only dealt with highly collectible cars $20k-$25k and up?
I can't see anyone paying more than $15k for this car, if it's perfect and has had maintenance.
No question that it looks great, and will be a nice car.
I'd say that if I were in the market for around this period, I'd either go for the '83-'84 (the last of the 16-valvers), or the '86.5 with the 32v, the brakes.

Thats a clean lookin car. Having had an 85 (which I later converted to S4 brakes), I'd still take it over an 83-84 auto. 83-84 Manual vs. 85 manual? Touch call but then I might side with the manual 83-84 in exact same condition. At any rate, the car looks good!!!

My '84 came via Barrett Jackson.....It was not accurately represented at all, the car had many problems including some of the interior trim strips being mounted with drywall screws instad of the proper clips, the engine had been "freshened" by spray painting all the dirt and grease, the dash and pod were recovered with the plastic cover (not in the description), they sort of forgot to mention the AC, cruise, odometer, and mirrors did not work... etc etc etc.....I bought it off the BJ auction "winner" for $10K less than he paid. For what I paid, I was happy. And I fully understand why he was not. And he should have sued....

I would never buy a car from them unless I inspected it in person first. They are auctioneers, not auto enthusiasts...and there is some possibility they are the worlds oldest profession.....
I notice this car does not mention AC as I read the flyer, did Porsche ever sell them with no AC? If not then they are covering for non functional AC? And a 5 speed automatic? Enough there to cause me serious concern as to the accuracy out of the box....

You won't see that one on TV more than likely, but they sell cars for under $10k at B/J from time to time! They don't show those cars of course...no one cares.
If that car goes for less than $20k someone got a STEAL on it! That is one SWEET CAR!!!

Greg you must think I overestimate a nice clean car... you are probably right. It would need to be a 10k mile car not a 25k mile car to be a $20k car I guess. Of course we saw that '86 w/ 7kish miles not sell at $30k...so the owners decided to ask $40k...smart move. NOT! So, 25k miles (if it is as nice as they say and as it should be), I think sub $20k would be a good deal and $15k should be realistic, but it probably isn't these days. So sad to see such GREAT cars devalued so badly!

I agree 100% on these cars being vastly undervalued, I think the same thing every time I work on a old 911.
But to say, sight unseen, and to rely on BJs description of a car based on STATED mileage and some pictures taken by folks that really know how to make a car look good is a steal at less than 20 grand is beyond me.
You put way too much value on low mileage cars, IMHO.
We disagree on that.
I am sure you would not think my 87 was worth ten grand because of the unknown milage, oh well.
But to say, sight unseen, and to rely on BJs description of a car based on STATED mileage and some pictures taken by folks that really know how to make a car look good is a steal at less than 20 grand is beyond me.

Well, I was presuming that the description was correct, complete and that everything is fully functional. If any of that is not true then yea, it is worth WAY, WAY less.
The low miles on GTS's prove to be quite valuable. True enough older low mile cars don't seem to hold their value nearly as well... once you have owned a NEW 928 you will understand how AWESOME low mile like new 928's really are and why people are willing to pay for that new car smell!

The 85-86 is the best year for around town grocery getters in my opinion. The gearing really helps the car feel faster than the 87-88 model years. I guess in 89 with the 2.54 rear diff they tried to help this problem. Styling wise I like them both. The 85-86 has me wanting to put on my favorite aviators and throw in my favorite poison sound track, for sure!
