Leif at Autowerks NW definitely knows his 928's, so if he checks the car out and says it's good to drive across the US..then I suspect it should be good to go.

Let see 3000 miles at 20 mpg and $3/gal = $450 gas money. 3 or 4 nights of hotel room and air fare plus your time. How much to ship a car cross country?

Let's see - your first cross-county drive in a new-to-you 928, or sit at home and hope that it doesn't get trashed by the car-hauling service...

I woudnt think twice about driving it , just a quick T belt tension check and look for any obvious leaks, filler up with some fuel and add a can of techron and off you go

Belt is not the only thing lurking to ambush you on a cross country trip..
I would take a good look at the filters (fuel and oil) and lines (Vacuum and fuel) before taking a trip.
Also things like maybe carry a few spare relays, and inspect all the grounds. Just a CYA move. would suck to break down in your 'new' car.
