Default Torque specs for diff/stub axle housings and stub axle bolts

The 5-speed torque specs are irritatingly missing from the cd's. I am having an interesting time with the housing bolts as the 6 bolts will just keep spinning which would suggest strippage. I remove bolts and no strippage. I'm at a total loss here. Was guessing 22 ib/ft since that is a standard for the size bolt it is, but most wont reach that, they just spin.

Well the bolts were stretching and one broke off in there..... 16 ib/ft is spec aparently, but I do not see 22 ripping bolts in half of this size. WTF

Are you talking about #8 in this pic? It's 16 ft-lbs as shown on the page after this drawing. These bolts go right into the case. The thread be should be 30mm long x 8mm diam.

Oh, I see you disvovered it before I posted. Sorry to hear about the snap. I've only dealt with these bolts once and can't remember them being a problem. If you can get access to the bolt stub, you might be able to work it back out with a dental pick if broken below the surface.

I ended up taking that side's housing back out and grabbing it with some huge channel locks, worked great. I went out and bought higher quality bolts to replace all 12 with as several of the others were stretching as well. All is well now though, torque everything properly and its all sealed up.
