Default Radiator Drain Plug / Drain ****

My plastic radiator drain plug sheared off during removal.
Getting the rest of it out should be straightforward enough.
However, finding a a timely replacement may be tougher.

Before I order one via Roger and Federal Express, is this a common size or type where there might be cross matched part via local sources to an Audi or VW part?

Pretty sure Jeannie keeps them in stock, buy several of them, you will need them sooner or later.

For flushing better remove both freeze plugs as well.

The Google led to a pic of a Mercedes drain plug that is identical in appearance to the ones I have bought from Mark, listing Behr part# W0133-1640678. FWIW. I think there should be one in everyone's glovebox, for when either you or your mechanic snaps off the one on the car. 1 ft-lb of torque!

Freeze plugs are out, and flushing now. They actually came out easily, contrary to some people's experiences/nightmares...

Several places to try. Local auto parts store misc parts rack. Radiator shop. Import car repair garage. Good luck. I had a busted one once and one of the local radiator shops had one in their junk box of misc leftover parts.

Heading out on local scavenger hunt now....seems to be a common enough Mercedes and BMW part too, so I have high hopes of scoring one locally.

Best way to prevent this problem in the future is to NOT mess with it and pull the lower radiator hose instead.

The owner of a shop I once worked at had a saying that is very appropriate: Radiator plugs/drains/petcocks are like diseased d*cks, don't f*ck with 'em!

I would rather replace a drain plug than have to buy a new radiator due to the plastic end coming off with the hose.
We always take them out to drain.
