Armwrestled a guy who drank motoroil out of the can before the match. He ended up in the Stallone movie about armwrestling. "Over the Top" Don't think it was too good for his bowel movement! LOL

10w 40 is too thin let alone a 30 weight oil, where did you get that advice, look in the owners manual and get advice from the makers of the engine, that will serve you well for the future.

Greg

I do read my manual, and it specifies 10W30 for my present climate.

I'm not sure why 928 guys believe they MUST run the thickest motor oil on the market.

From p. 91 of the 1982 Owner's Manual...

A 10W40 will protect you up to about 100*F. On a hot day temps on the road can easily exceed this. This is why we tend to run 15W-50 or 20W-50.

I suppose it's ok until the ambient temp rises above 68 degrees Fahrenheit.

There is also a good chance his 82 doesn't have an oil cooler which could further complicate things.

Some of us have done quote a bit of experimenting both on and off the track. We don't use "the thickest" oil for sh*ts and grins.

5w-40 in my 81 on a 90 degree day left me with almost no oil pressure at idle and for those who claim gauge error, my lifters also started ticking moments after the low pressure. Call me crazy, but that's not a good thing.

I also stopped paying $12 a quart for Royal Purple after many reports showing their street oils were not what they use to be.

I'm sticking with Brad Penn or Valvoline VR1 until I'm given a compelling reason to switch, again.

any opinions on Golden Spectro Oils ?
I am considering switching to 20w50.

I used to race CBR600s and GoldenSpectro oils and never had any oil related issues.

In a wet clutch motorcycle, GoldenSpectro 20/w50 used to make that bike shift like butter.

Hot butter, or cold butter?

Heheh.. Well, instead of the ole 'Clunk-thunk' when shifting the action improved to a neat 'Snict' feel on the toe.

All we use is Royal Purple 20W 50 in our cars and customer cars.
The zinc is just right.
Besides they sponsor F1 and that makes it all right 8>).
