Ah yes, "I talked to my dad (it's his car) and he said he could use some cash, .." When you look down your street and every fifth house has someone unemployed. Or like a fellow POC racer who said two of his four adult children have no job....Or when you are drawing unemployemend like ME. The market for TOYS generally sucks..... Add in the near complete elimination of home equity lines of credit which was often the source for such purchases and lots of people..." could use some cash,... "

Here is an example..... In 2004 I bought my nice 88 S4 automatic that was just about completely rebuild by Devek for $15500 & that included $11500 worth of work to make it just about 100% perfect mechanically.... Over the years I did a bunch of little cosmetic things and began to concour it with PCA an WIN my class...... In 2006 at Sharktoberfest I was offered $20k cash & turned it down..... I ended up selling it in July 2009 for $14k.... I seriously DOUBT I could get that today....I think $12k would be optimistic, probably $10k in todays market....
Here are some pics showing the condition

Brian, your car looked amazing! Ours is not in as nice of a condition, but at least it is much cleaner than the average 928 found in the classifieds. Honestly neither my dad nor I had a very good grasp on 928 values when he decided to sell it, so I just looked at a few cars on ebay and CL and decided to optimistically ask $13k with the "obo" standing for "I don't actually know what it's worth but I'd rather overshoot than undershoot".....
Now after having seen more cars come and go on the market I think ours is really special, meaning I don't think I would let my dad let it go for peanuts, and I'd encourage him to just be patient until the right buyer comes along. But we both agree that money talks so any non-lowball offer is welcome.
Stefan, I believe those wheels (the 18" 3-piece ones) are some knock-off brand that is available on ebay, and I think they are actually only 1-piece. They came on a 964 my dad used to have and he kept them, and he puts them on every car he gets, and always ends up keeping them. The tires on them (which are very good) are worth more than the wheels.
James, yeah, we need money honey.
Greg, this car has the flip-up rear spoiler, does that mean anything as far as identifying if it's a squirter motor car?
I don't want to post the vin for privacy reasons but if you want it please PM me and we can talk.

I wish we could buy 928's like that here in Europe for 10K Dollars... Germany & Scandinavia prices for good ones are 15K Euros. You can get a beat up bomb for less but the good ones are expensive.
It's well respected model around here. The biggest thing that keeps the prices down is that people are afraid of the maintenance. 928 has the same reputation as the 8'er Beemer.

Wow same rep as the 8'er Beemer? I guess I have been real lucky both of mine have been dead reliable. I drive cassirot like a daily driver in the summer and probably put 10k a year on her. I had to get the maintenance up to date but I haven't put a single dollar into here this year to keep her running.

It's not like I'm totally "in" with the 928 crowd OR the 8 crowd, but my friends and I always compare 928s with 8s like it's apples/apples.

its safe to say the market for any luxury item is quite soft...... unforunately 928's fall into this catagory.... I wish I was in a position to buy...since the prices are very attractive!!

We were originally asking $13,000, we have lowered to 11,900, and as always considering offers.
Yeah, I hear ya. I like 944s myself and I keep seeing nice low-priced ones I'd love to jump on, but alas I need to curb my car-hunger. Well my dad is enjoying the car while he still has it, so if it doesn't sell, at least it's not sitting and taking up space.

Love the black 928's. The LSD/5 spd combo is very attractive as well. I just purchased an 87 in Ohio last month for 8900. Purchased from a dealership that got it on a trade in December. Original asking from them was in the 13's. five months and no movement I offered cash at that price and drove it home.
The manager wanted to get out of it.
The car is in excellent condition throughout with history and one owner.
The market is very very weak, so I'm dang glad I picked this time to buy! (and a nice upgrade from my 84)
